I got tenure yesterday!!!

Ahhh!!! I am sooo lucky. Yesterday was my last day of work (I'm a teacher) because my doctor has decided that the swelling in my legs is too bad to be standing up all day. So...I was originally supposed to work up until my due date, but am stopping 2 weeks early. Not too bad, and I really do need the rest.
Anyway, this is my 'tenure' year at school and my principal originally thought that since I would be going out on maternity leave, the tenure might have to wait until October. Supposedly, tenure recommendations are only given to the board twice yearly...April and October. WELL, lucky for me, they approved me yesterday (a few short days before April) and now I am all set! I can't believe how that worked out!!

Congratulations! What a nice surprise before the baby comes! Now you can relax at home too before the big event.

What is tenure anyway? I've heard the term with teachers but I never really knew exactly what it means, Something with job security?

Congrats! This is my tenure year as well, and am in the process of filling out forms for my approval! My principal already told me she is recommending, so I'm extremely happy!

Isn't it the biggest relief in the world!!!!!!!

Elizabeth-
Tenure basically means job security. You move from a 3-year probationary appt. to a permanent member of the faculty. It is very difficult to get fired once you are tenured, but unfortunately there are those who tend to 'slack off' once they become tenured, because they know they don't have to prove themselves the way they used to. Again, this is only some, definitely not all!
