Share with me your strategy for success... how did you address the bar thing? And didn't they care? And where are you looking? Girl, you seem to know what you're doing, clue me in!

They’re starting me as a “staff member” for now, knowing that I have to retake the bar in February. They’re giving me two weeks off (unpaid, of course) right before the exam so I can really focus my studies. Once I pass the bar and get admitted, they will reevaluate my salary and they said it will increase based on my performance thus far by that point (which will probably be I guess around june or july god willing I pass).

I’ve been looking everywhere really – simplicity, craigslist, nyu’s undergrad job website, idealist.org, newspapers, following dead end leads from people, going to bars and hoping to meet lawyers

Basically, my interview was right after we got results, so I couldn’t lie to them about the bar. I told them that unfortunately I didn’t pass and that I had to take it again and they said they would think about it because they had many qualified applicants, etc. etc. I made sure to tell them that I only failed by a small margin (which isn’t a lie). So I figured I was “done.” But I went back for a second interview last night and they called me this afternoon to offer me the job. I’m ecstatic. I like where I am now, but I don’t think there’s really any potential for future here – my boss is out today so I have to discuss this with her bright and early on Monday morning and give her my two weeks, unless they want to counter with a better offer.

Just be persistent. I know that sounds cliche, but I literally apply to like 20 jobs a day. I don’t remember where/when I applied to this job in particular because I literally have applied to hundreds of them in the last few months. I'll e-mail you my cover letter because this job in particular said they were really “wowed” by it. I don’t think it’s all that good, but who knows what they're looking for Feel free to take from it what you like.

Also, they said my references really stuck out because no one had a single negative thing to say about me. I guess that works to my advantage as well.

Everyone of my friends from LS who failed the bar were pretty much told 'Thank you for your time, but when you pass-please call us so we can re-evaluate..'...Even me!! I am honestly surprised about this but if you were the most qualified applicant with the best fit for them - then kudos to you!! Just make sure you get that salary 're-negotiation' in writing so they won't stiff you in June/July when you get admitted and demand more $$.

The bar exam is such a stupid little pesky test to get past but I've no doubt you will rock it in February!!!
