Yay..what subject area do you have to teach? Did they assign you a boro or anything. I know when I started it had to be region 5, but we don't have regions anymore. If you want to do your spring visit at my school I would love to show you around!

Did you get a commitment letter from them? Thats what I had got, guarenteeing me job if I didnt find one on my own. What I recommend doing is sending out your resume to schools you wish to get in to. Thats what I did. Not that it worked for me. I got a school 3 days before school started because my friend was just hired there and they were still looking. From what I know, they have a very high turn over rate there, so that school could be a last resort. If you dont find your own school, they will definitely place you in schools that are not well funded and in iffy areas. If i didnt get my own job, i wouldve had to travel up to the north bronx. That was my placement had I not gone to my friends school. Good Luck getting into a great school!

As for finding a school, I'm with you - don't ask them to place you; find schools on your own. I wish I could be of help, but I only ever taught HS in NYC and don't really know elementary schools other than the ones in my old neighborhood (South Brooklyn). Just find neighborhoods where you'd think you'd like to spend your time and call the main office to see if they're hiring. And whether they say yes or no, send a resume so they'll have it on file - you never know when someone is going to get pregnant, move, retire, etc.

Congratulations Bon! That is great news (sorry I didn't even know you were interviewing!)
A few of my friends work in Bayside Elementary Schools and one works in LIC.
Are you looking for a specific grade? Let me know and I will tell them to keep you in mind.
