Ok so yesterday I was doing about 50 on the Grand Central on my way home from work when the oil light and the battery light came on and the car just stopped. I managed to get on to the shoulder, start the car again to get it to the mechanic. It seemed I had a bad leak and the oil ran out and the engine almost seized. We thought it was repaired and we were going to nurse this thing for a year until DH finished paying off HIS car loan so we wouldnt have to pay for two at once.
Well guess what. We may have to pay for two at once. The silver bullet (my car's nickname) was a rat-tat-tatting all the way to and from Brooklyn today to the point where I felt incredibly unsafe and people were staring at me because my car made so much noise. I took it back to the mechanic who basically declared it dead and useless to repair. It would cost us close to $3K for a motor and with a car that has over 105,000 miles on it, it just was not worth it.
The timing sux as we were planning to start a family soon and may need to put it off. I just need a hug and a few tissues. So sorry for the sob story. Can someone buy me a megamillions ticket?

I'm sorry Leslie. I've had car trouble since I started driving. I know what a PITA's it can be! Put your feet up and have some wine and try to just not think about it for an evening.

i hate cars and car problems!!!!!!!!!!! awww leslie- to console you there are a bunch of great deals out there....
try to look at the bright side, if you start a family you have 9 months to save some money, and also a new car that doesnt give you any problems is a good thing...peace of mind... i will send some money vibes your way!

Sorry you had a crappy day. But as Sasha said, it will all work out. You'll get another car that's safe and baby friendly and you will have your family.
There are going to be many bumps in the road emotionally and financially in your life, having each other will help you through.

But IMO I would never put off TTC for a car or a car loan (or a bill for that matter)...we only have but so many fertile years, while money can always be made (and there are always little surprises ). Life is full of tests...you'll get through this!
Thanks everyone! Sasha, you are truly the voice of reason. I think things will go on as scheduled. DH knows my 'time' is limited and hasnt really said anything to the contrary of getting things started but it has to be right!
i have to second this--- pls. leslie, don't put off having children for a ragamuffin car... you will find the money somewhere!!! keep positive!
