I HATE DRESS SHOPPING!

I HATE DRESS SHOPPING!

This by farrrrrrrr has been the WORST part of wedding planning. I feel like I'm just swirling downward in this endless cycle of BS! I can't take it anymore. I'm almost at the brink of tears over all this!
I found 2 dresses I like, one more than the other. But still I'm not in love with them.
Then i found this one designer Essence of Australia who seems to have TONS of styles that I just fell in love with. Problem is I found them online and I have yet to be able to try a dress one! Of the 4 places listed in NY... 2 are stores with bad bad bad reviews... (1 of which HUNG UP ON ME WHEN I CALLED!) Neither have the dresses I'm looking for. Then there's a place in the Bronx which I went to because they said they had dresses by this designer.. they said they didnt' have the style I was looking for but they had others. So I go anyway... only I didn't get to try on a single dress by them! They didn't even show me the book from the designer.... I had to ask to see it. Then she tells me she can get the 2 dresses in for $75 each. Now I know some stores do this.. but I'm sorry THAT'S FAR BEYOND WRONG! Why in the world should I have to pay for a dress to be shipped to your store JUST SO I CAN TRY IT ON??? If the designer says your store carries their dresses then you should either have the dress or be able to get it and I shouldn't have to pay for it! You are the one who is in contract with the designer... not me. So then i go to Jersey to find the dress... and the SAME STORY! I have yet to even try on a single dress by this designer! These places will tell you ANYTHING just to get you in there to try on any dress they throw at you... all the while knowing it's not what you are looking for. I feel like they are Used car salesmen!

So then I try to call the designer ... and I get this woman on the phone who is ABSOLUTELY NO HELP whatsoever! She was just telling me she can't do anything for me.. she can't tell me which stores have the style I am looking for. She wasn't even willing to look up my styles to see if they were still making them.. I had to practicly beg her to do so and turns out one is discontinued!

At this point.. I feel like the designer DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO SELL ANY DRESSES AND I CAN'T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND HOW THE HELL THEY ARE EVEN STILL IN BUSINESS! When it's this hard to obtain a dress just to try it on.... how does anyone just come across it and actually get to the point of trying it on and buying it??!?!?!?!?!?!

Does anyone else have this same level of stress with stupid dress shopping?

have you tried so see if other designers have something very similar. I like a maggie dress and 3 other designers make the almost same dress. We found the same thing with BM dresses. Maybe go to a shop and bring the Essense of Australia pics and ask them for something very similar.....I bet you find something and at least that way you know if you even like the style on you.

Thank you for responding.

I brought pics of the dress and the style numbers. Some places showed me similiar dresses. But the thing that gets me is why over the phone they say yes we have tons of dresses from that designer and when I get there they don't have a single one and want me to pay to have 1 shipped there? That just doesnt' sound right to me.

I agree with the above poster. Forget about that designer, if its that hard to just try one of their dresses on just imagine the headache after a dress was ordered from them.

It's sad when you can't find something in NYC! I mean come on! It's NY! I could understand if I was in nowhere's land! But NYC!!! It's just soo frusterating! I'm even willing to travel! I just need to know what store actually has the dress so I can just f*cking try it on! They all tell me yea we have tons of them.. but not that style.. but come inanyway because you can try on other ones and we can order you that dress. Only I get there and the TONS of dresses by this desinger is oh.. NONE! And in order to order them it's $75 a dress???!!!! why should that be my expense?

I feel like bc they know you are getting married they seem to think we have tons of money just waiting in our accounts to throw at them and are just looking for any excuse to charge us money for bogus BS! The other store wanted $50 for the dress shipment... so why is one $75? Are you now making money off of me because YOU DON'T HAVE A DRESS YOU CLAIM TO HAVE?

That's exactly what I was thinking too! Which is why a HUGE part of me wants to say screw this designer. But at the same time I soooo love their dresses!

I don't know if they carry the style but The Bridal Shop in Westchester carries that brand.

That's what I'm afraid of... and it's also why i don't think I should have to pay for a dress to be shipped to a store who's supposed to carry it anyway. The store still benefits from the dress being shipped there becuase they now have it for future brides.

Hey man.. I wish I could run a company where I get my customers to pay for the merchandise I sell to other consumers!

Thank you sooo much for that info.

I called them and they no longer carry that designer. He was sooo nice on the phone. Even directed me to a special web site they have that shows all the dresses they have. They don't have anything close to the style I'm looking for. But he really was sooo nice! That's the kind of customer service I expect from other places.
Thanks for the help though.

Maybe you can post a photo of what you like and someone on here can find something similar?

listen.... seriously, go to the 2 bad stores just to try it on... dont order from them if you end up loving the dress.... order it either online or a store in another state and have it shipped to you.... seems like a crazy amt of work to do for a dress but if you think its really the one, i would do it

I had the same issue... there were like 5 Maggie Sottero's that I LOVED and couldn't find them anywhere. I even went to a trunk show and they didn't have them there either!

Eventually I found another dress I love, but in the back of my mind I still wish I could have tried on a few of those dresses.

Good luck!

I have been crazy stressed about dress shopping too. . . although my problem was mostly that I wass upset I was not getting that 'tingly' with any of the millions of dressed I tried on. . . then it just happened and not just I got the tinglies . . . everyone did!

I know it's terrible and frustrating but it will happen . . . just don't settle and dont give in to stupid things you know are not correct like paying to try on a dress.

Completely agree. I tried my dress on in a shady-ish store, and called, and researched, and did all the leg work to find another store that had it or would be able to procure it...and it was so worth it.

Worst case scenario, you can get it shipped and then all you have to find is a seamstress.
