I HATE DRESS SHOPPING!

Original post by KerriJohnS

This by farrrrrrrr has been the WORST part of wedding planning. I feel like I'm just swirling downward in this endless cycle of BS! I can't take it anymore. I'm almost at the brink of tears over all this!
I found 2 dresses I like, one more than the other. But still I'm not in love with them.
Then i found this one designer Essence of Australia who seems to have TONS of styles that I just fell in love with. Problem is I found them online and I have yet to be able to try a dress one! Of the 4 places listed in NY... 2 are stores with bad bad bad reviews... (1 of which HUNG UP ON ME WHEN I CALLED!) Neither have the dresses I'm looking for. Then there's a place in the Bronx which I went to because they said they had dresses by this designer.. they said they didnt' have the style I was looking for but they had others. So I go anyway... only I didn't get to try on a single dress by them! They didn't even show me the book from the designer.... I had to ask to see it. Then she tells me she can get the 2 dresses in for $75 each. Now I know some stores do this.. but I'm sorry THAT'S FAR BEYOND WRONG! Why in the world should I have to pay for a dress to be shipped to your store JUST SO I CAN TRY IT ON??? If the designer says your store carries their dresses then you should either have the dress or be able to get it and I shouldn't have to pay for it! You are the one who is in contract with the designer... not me. So then i go to Jersey to find the dress... and the SAME STORY! I have yet to even try on a single dress by this designer! These places will tell you ANYTHING just to get you in there to try on any dress they throw at you... all the while knowing it's not what you are looking for. I feel like they are Used car salesmen!

So then I try to call the designer ... and I get this woman on the phone who is ABSOLUTELY NO HELP whatsoever! She was just telling me she can't do anything for me.. she can't tell me which stores have the style I am looking for. She wasn't even willing to look up my styles to see if they were still making them.. I had to practicly beg her to do so and turns out one is discontinued!

At this point.. I feel like the designer DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO SELL ANY DRESSES AND I CAN'T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND HOW THE HELL THEY ARE EVEN STILL IN BUSINESS! When it's this hard to obtain a dress just to try it on.... how does anyone just come across it and actually get to the point of trying it on and buying it??!?!?!?!?!?!

Does anyone else have this same level of stress with stupid dress shopping?

OMG! You girls are the sweetest people ever! thank you all for responding to me during my lil flip out!

Mrs Mazz - thank you for that.. i so would do that too... but those 2 stores don't have that style either. Well actually now that i'm thinking about it one might... so i should try to call again! thank you!

everyone else - i so glad to see im not the only one. I keep hearing about people who find their dress so easily... and i'm just soo discouraged.

I think I may end up having to go to Philly to see it. Someone from LIW is helping me find a place that may have it in Philly (BTW I've never been there before).

I posted some pics a while ago... but I'm going to go find them again so I can post them.

Oh and for some reason my letter m on my keyboard isnt working... and everytime I press it i have to really smash the m key! this is rediculous! ha ha ha ha!

I had the same issue... there were like 5 Maggie Sottero's that I LOVED and couldn't find them anywhere. I even went to a trunk show and they didn't have them there either!

Eventually I found another dress I love, but in the back of my mind I still wish I could have tried on a few of those dresses.

Good luck!

That's like literally the same issue! They should know how hard they make it on us to obtain a dress.... then maybe they could change that... i mean if their goal is to make money.

I don't know if they carry the style but The Bridal Shop in Westchester carries that brand.

Thank you sooo much for that info.

I called them and they no longer carry that designer. He was sooo nice on the phone. Even directed me to a special web site they have that shows all the dresses they have. They don't have anything close to the style I'm looking for. But he really was sooo nice! That's the kind of customer service I expect from other places.
Thanks for the help though.

HAAAAAAAA funny you say that bc their in store customer service ****** big hairy asss... i wouldnt tell me worst enemy to go there.... they had papers everywhere uder this tiny desk all out in the open that made me wonder just how much paperwork they lose

Oh wow! that's a scary thought.
He was helpful in that he actually had an answer and knew what he was talking about... but he was a tad strange. But I don't care I'll try it on anywhere and then order it somewhere's else - like everyone said to do.

Casablanca bridal makes a dress that looks like that. Style # 1918 I think. Ihope you will find a dress that you will love. . I just checked and its more of an A-line. I hope that will help you

Maggie Sottero has a couple of similar dresses as well ... the dress I got is a Maggie. You should check out her website and see if you like any of her dresses as well (if the Philly thing doesn't work out).

Good luck to you!

Re: I HATE DRESS SHOPPING!

I was originally looking for a Maggie and no one had it on LI or in NY so I called Burtons in Huntington. The lady told me they could order me the sample - I think it was like $50 - and they would apply the $50 towards whichever dress I ordered. Maybe try calling there and see what they can do?
