I hate it!!!!!! I really really really HATE it!!!

Okay..what do I do? A really really good friend of mine (who is very very sensitive) gave me a cake topper that she thinks would be 'perfect' for us and I totally and utterly HATE it!

I really don't want to suck it up and use it because I really hate it....

Also... it's really tough to tell her because she is very sensitive and touchy and is one of those people who 'thinks they know best.' I usually give in to what she wants, but this is MY wedding day and I don't want to use it.

Did I mention that I hate it?

What do I do?

don't do anything. And, don't use it.

Your cake topper is a very personal thing and no one should be telling you what they think you should use, much less give you something to use.

don't mention it and don't use it. When the wedding comes and she notices that you have a different cake topper, just say 'oops, the hall made a mistake'

Oh my gosh, I have a very similar situation. An aunt who is VERY close to my fh gave us a HIDEOUS cake topper. HIDEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, we know it would really really hurt her feelings if it wasn't there on the wedding day....So...... we decided we'd put it on or very very close to the cake or on cake table. (For a little while at least...)

Maybe you can display it on cake table for awhile, but make sure it 'happens' to be whisked away for pictures of feeding each other cake....

Don't put it on your cake if you hate it. You could display it else where -- on the escort table maybe ...

My FMIL does this sort of thing. She gave me a cake topper at my shower! She knows were aren't using one because she was at the tasting.

What ever ....

Just kidding.

Either tell her that a family member already got you one or just use one you like and don't say anything at all. I doubt she'll bring it up in the middle of the wedding.

I would either

1. tell her you already have your cake topper and that you're in love with it. but thank her for the gesture

2. if #1 doesn't work, I would break it.

I agree, tell you have something else picked out but thanks for thinking of you... or something like that. You only get one wedding, make sure you love everything.

I had the same thing happen, but with toasting glasses!!! My aunt gave me these hideous silver engraved glasses. That when you put them together they formed a heart. They couldn't be anything further from my taste.
She even went so far as to bring them to my hall for me.
I just didn't use them. I told her my mom bought me the ones I used (beautiful Waterford ones) and I had to use my moms cause she'd freak.
My aunt dropped it when I told her that.

If you feel you 'need' to use it have it at the rehersal dinner to make her happy.
Otherwise tell her your FH picked one for you two at the last minute..You can't argue with that,

Yikes... you mean they would just ignore the registry and start crafting stuff on their own? My shower is next weekend, too. NWR: One time I had this boyfriend and he had this stupid sunglasses that I really hated... Suddenly they got 'lost' and he was never able to wear them again.....

Instead of placing it on top, why not on the bottom next to the cake. I've seen that done. I have two cake tops, both special for different reasons. I will go on top the other on the bottom next to the cake. It won't be your cake top & your friend won't get their feelings hurt.
