I hate job hunting!

as some of you may know I've been SEARCHING high and low for a job since the beginning of May (when I graduated college). I've sent out about 40 resumes since then and everytime I get a phone call I jump threw the roof. So today someone called me and left a message on my phone and says, 'We don't have the room in our budget for a music therapist, but we'd really love one---would you be interested in volunteering instead????' Ummmmm no, unless she's willing to start paying my bills!!!!! this irked me sooo much!
btw-sent out 5 more resumes today....and sealed them all with a kiss! LOL

I am with you....I have sent out (and I am not exaggerating) 300 resumes. I have a little temp job, but I do not know when my assignment will be up

I know what you mean about the 'there's no budget' I got excuses like that as well.....I got - 'If you work for free during the 1 month probation period, we moght be able to work out a salary if we hire you '

It will get better......It has to

Volunteering can sometimes lead to a permanent position. I work for a non-profit organization and periodically we have had volunteers become full-time paid employees. If you are currently employed and can maybe afford to volunteer a little bit, it will not only help you make contacts, but you can gain valuable experience as well. JMHO

Good luck with your job search!

I would volunteer. One way to look at it is that you're bills aren't getting paid being unemployed anyways and you'll get some experience (and references) which could help you land a permanent paying position.

I would try and work out something where they would pay for your commuting expenses and I would also be upfront that if something that pays comes around, you'll be leaving.

I volunteered at an investment bank in college in order to get the name on my resume.
