but I found out last night that I need to have a colonoscopydone. I have to call the doctor next week to make an appointment to discuss it then probably have it done the week later. So with work and planning the wedding, I have to have this done now too.

When the dr. was explaining it to me after my mom's, he said they also check for polyps, which they usually remove if they are found during the procedure...

I was told that too last night.

Right and if they find one and remove it they biopsy, don't get scared most are benign, and tell you that you need to come back every 5 years for subsequent check-ups.

I have decided that the day that I have to meet with the doctor I am going to call in sick and the day before and the day of the procedure I will put in for two vacation days.

This is true, I have to add that I have had it done as well, and the PREPERATION is the worst part. The actual procedure you aren't even aware of, but same as nov04libride said, I did need someone to sign for me and take me home.

It's not really that bad. The worst part is truly beforehand. You don't necessarily need someone to go with you because they didn't completely knock me out, they have two different options of being completely out of it or just a little out of it and being fine within 10 to 20 minutes of the procedure. I've had the colonoscopy sigmoidoscopy and endoscopy, I have to go for another endoscopy soon but I keep on canceling the appointment because they have to do it at Winthrop and I don't feel like taking off of work. Good luck...also I've heard recently that you can take a pill rather than drinking all of that stuff beforehand so maybe check that out.

Lisa, like most here have said it's not that scary. I have had tons done in the past 3 years (3 done in 2 weeks once, and then once a year since 2002. The worst is drinking the stuff to make you go to the toilet the day before. However, my cousin, when she had it done, got something that wasn't too bad to drink. I'll ask her what it was. Maybe they can get it for you if you ask your doctor's office. It was lime/lemon flavored.

As for the actual procedure, I've never been totally knocked out but I know others who have been. It usually depends on the doctor who is doing the procedure. I always have some IV hooked into me and whatever they give me, it's a sedative that makes me loopy and sing stupid songs (I kid you not!). But whatever sedative it is, it makes you not remember the procedure afterwards. I mean I did, but it was a foggy memory. And as for how it feels, you feel a pressure but not a 'ouch' sort of pain. It's uncomfortable but not to the point of tears or gritting your teeth.

Either way, I hope the results will be good.

Update: I spoke to my doctor and I will be have the colonoscopy next Wednesday. Instead of taking the drink, I will be taking pills (actually 40 pills ). I guess that is what I get for not wanting the drink. My FI will be taking me for the test so at least I know I have someone to take me home. I will let you all know how it went once it is over.
