I hate Victoria's Secret commercials!!

Geez!!! Here I am watching ER and on comes this commerical filled with perfect women! Argggggghhhh!!! I hate them. Do any real women actually look like that in that lingerie?? Does anyone even wear that lingerie??

Liz - EXACTLY what I was going to say. Those commercials just make me want to go find some nice lingerie and a good photographer and get a sex-pot photo shoot done! Because with the right makeup and lighting, just about ANY woman can look good

They never really bothered me too much.

But this new one!!

I was watching ER last night, too, and the commercial came on and I actually hid my eyes. The last few times I watched the commercial I ended up feeling FAT and UGLY and JIGGLY in all the wrong places.

It didn't help that I had my hand in a bag of Cheetos when the commercial came on....

It's no wonder women have such a hard time with self-esteem and feeling good about their bodies.

In the Calvin Klein underwear ads, and on billboards in Times Square.

I don't mind them so much. I think Victoria's Secret has had a great impact on every women's lingerie designer. It forced them to start making things sexy in every size. I don't mind them so much..I love the lingerie and I can fill it out w/o tape.

I hate those commercials!!

But really, why does every 'sexy' ad have to include hair being blown around by lots of fans? The commercials have a bit of an 80's hair band quality to them.

in grad school my thesis was on the correlation between media and eating disorders...and it is horrible what the media can do...but is refreshing to see mags like Marie Claire and Glamour changing little by little


when you look at the seriousness of this problem, I have to wonder how the heads of these companies can sleep at night...but I guess they don't care...and thats so sad...they just care that they make money

Funny you should bring this up. I was thinking the same thing last night as I was laying in bed, no make-up, hair in ponytail in sweats and a tee nursing a zit on my forehead that I can't get rid of!!

I thought, WOW! What would it take for me to look like that? Even when I was in the best shape of my life I didn't look like that!

A lot of women don't realize that these women would be considered underweight by medical standards. And since most of the time if you are underweight like that, you also lose your boobs, their chests are most likely 'surgically enhanced.'

I'm 5'7', 125 lbs, and a 36C. At one time, when I was pursuing print modeling and taking acting classes, I actually weighed 113 lbs. My boobs shrank at least a cup size, my collar bones stood out, the ribs between my boobs were starting to show through a little, my clothes hung on me, but my stomach still wasn't flat as a board. So go figure. I wasn't anorexic, but I was just plain too thin.

Unfortunately, my blood pressure dropped along with my weight, and was 90/60, when it's usually 120/80!! I felt weak and tired all the time. I caught every little bug that came my way. NOT WORTH IT LADIES.

And even the $$$ made in careers that require you to be that thin is NOT WORTH IT.

The pictures and commercials are FAKE FAKE FAKE!!! Great lighting, perfect camera angles, and HOURS of hair and makeup. What you see is NOT real in any sense.

It's all Smoke and Mirrors.

The picture in my Avatar was taken by a professional photographer, in a professional studio, after at least an hour of hair and makeup by professional hair/makeup people, with just the right lighting, angles, etc. While it looks like me, it looks like me on an incredibly GOOD day. LOL!! I don't come out like that in snapshots!! I really should take it down...

But people who aren't really aware of how it's all done, can end up feeling very inadequate and just plain UGLY. Heck, I AM aware of it, and I still feel gross after watching those VS commercials. Then I remember how lousy I felt at 113 lbs, and shove my hand right back into the bag of Cheetos!!! And I ENJOY IT!!!

Every single woman is beautiful in her own way. Karen I love your pic don't you dare take it down!!!

What bothers me is that it's frustrating to see these women looking so perfect and think..no matter what I do there is no way I can ever look that good. First of all those women are half my age..second I would need a leg transplant since I am only 5' 2 1/2'!!

Even though I know it's makeup and lighting and probably shot over and over again, I dislike that this is what is considered sexy!!! I am pretty sure of myself and while I am less then thrilled with my body I have always considered myself to be sexy. It's a state of mind! But I hate that the advertising people stick these impossibly gorgeous women out there and say to the rest of the world that this is what sexy is!!!
