I have a BIG problem about my dress. Please help!

I brought my dress to be cleaned and preserved back in Febuary. I picked it up about 3 week ago (boxed already--not sealed) and took it home and looked at it. There were 2 black marks on the dress (one on the front and one on the back), so I called and told them about it. So I brought it back in. Now, this weekend I went to pick it up and there was an 8 inch pull on the back of the dress that definately was not there before. The back is ruined!!! They claim they can fix it, so I am giving them the benifit of the doubt for now.

If they can't, do I have the right to get money for what the dress was worth?

It's not going to fix my dress, and I am heartbroken over this, but I want something considering they ruined my dress.

If you ladies have had an experience like this before, whether it was a wedding gown or a scarf, whatever, can you please let me know the outcome.

Thanks in advance.

OMG I am sooo sorry!!! That is awful. They will probably offer you something minimal if they cannot fix it and it would probably have to get very complicated and ugly to get what would be fair but see what they can do. Let us know!!!

I will not preserve my gown for the reason that you mentioned.

A former co-worker had her gown cleaned and preserved in a box. She wanted to 'check it out' and found that only the top part of the dress was in the box (and visible from the clear top).

She called them and they told her flat out that yes they cut the bottom and said 'otherwise sweety how do you think the dress would have fit in the small box?' and that it was a standard procedure. I am sure a lot of girls are missing a part of their dress in that State and don't know about it!

The dry cleaner that my sister took her gown to LOST her dress. When she went back after she didn't hear from them they told her they had changed owners and basically 'sorry, too bad'

my cousin had to sue a dry cleaner once for ruining her dress. She won, and they had to give her $$ for the dress, but the judge said that she had to GIVE the dry cleaner the dress!!! She thought quickly and said she already threw it out. (make sure you take LOTS of pictures of everything they damaged... did you take it of the black spots?).

I worked in a dry cleaners for a few years....we dealt heavily in wedding dresses (so I feel like an expert)....

we were EXTREMEMLY careful with dresses for these very reasons. We would inspect a dress prior to cleaning and if there were stains visible at the time, we would make note of them and make the bride (or mom as it often was) come back and sign the form about the stains (some girls wait several months to take a dress in for this....the stains set) we also checked for tears/rips/loose zippers/buttons...for the sole reason to avoid someone saying we did it...because the owner knew he'd have to replace it if we did damage them...and we were a 'higher end' dry cleaners, so most of the dresses were Vera Wang's and such...he wasn't looking forward to replacing those.

You can definitely ask them to replace/repair/refund the dress. You may still have to pay for the cleaning because they did do that (depending on the people and the situation, they may waive this as well)...if they ruin your blouse, they give you the $45 to replace it, but they do keep the old one...so if they do 'replace' your dress (via $$$) you will still be out the dress.

So basically I am in a loose-loose situation. I am sooooo mad right now. I can either take the money and loose one of the most sentimental things I own. Or I suck it up and keep the dress, but it's damaged.

My dry cleaner is considered to be upscale. They didn't have me sign anything, and I pointed out the stains to them.
