So FH hadn't eaten all day so he decided to get a Smoothie before boarding his train. When he gt on the trianw as very crowded so he had to stand in the aisle next to the seats, as soon as he got there there was a bald 60 year old man in an expensive suit toogling between a newspapaer and his blackberry abruptly said 'Could you move, I don't want you spillling that on me'
FH 'Don't worry, I won't spill it'
MR. Clean: 'Could you move!!!!! I had an incident with somsone spilling something on me, and I need you to move'
FH: 'Sir, I am not going to spill this on you, if I do, I will gladly pay for the suit'
Mr. Clean: 'You couldn't afford this suit, you little punk'
FH: How do you know what I can and can't afford? (this is when Fh got pissed)
Mr. Clean: mumble mumble Long beach trash (FH actually lives like a block from garden city, but the train connected w/ a long beach train)
You have to MOVE. I am going to call the conductor abd ahve you thrown off this train!
FH: Sorry sir, but I have every right to stand here.
Mr. Clean: Stop provoking me you little punk ***! You don't know what you're getting into.
FH: Sir, the way I see it, you are the one doing the provoking here.
When the train arrived at Jamaica and Fh didn't get off for the Long Beach train as Mr Clean expected, Mr Clean proceeded to stand up, grin at FH and say 'Smile for me, would just smile?'
FH : what are you talking about?
Mr. Clean, pointing his finer right in FH's face 'Why don't you just move, you don' know what you're getting into by provoking me'
Then Mr. Clean got up form his seat, went to the area by the doors and was trying to get Fh to 'take it outside.'
Mr. Clean: COme here, Son, You don't know what you're dealing with, I've learned a few things in my 60 years, you don't know what you're getting into with me
FH: In my 23 years I've learned that having an expensive suit doesn't make you better than anyone else, and as much as I'd like you to take a swing at me, I'm above that.
and Mr. Clean fumed off
Crazy, no?

Re: I have a crazy LIRR story.
He was so nuts. Fh said and even told the guy that he wold ahve moved if the guy had been at all polite about it, but he was just pushing FH around.
FH keeps asking me if he did the right thing. Maybe the more 'mature' thing to do would have been to walk away, but I'm actually proud that he stood his ground and didn't let himself get walked all over by this guy. I mean he could just have asked nicely, and not acted like he was better than everyone else. He thought he was better than Fh just by looking at him, or by where he thought FH lived, and that's really a load of BS

really.....for all he knew..your FH could buy him 3 suits like that! Who is he to judge??
Your FH did the right thing...stood his ground, but didn't stoop to that AZZes level!! You should be proud!!

Good for your FH! Some people really need to be knocked off their pedestal from time to time. Its good that he stood up for himself.

Good for your FH, some people have such nerve. I can't believe he wanted your FI to step outside the train. What the hell?! I think he was definitely right to stand his ground & he was polite about it too, the guy was definitely out of line.

Re: I have a crazy LIRR story.
some people!
Seriously, it may just be me...but when someone is worried about something happening to them, doesn't it make sense to remove THEMSELVES from the situation? Mr. Suit was so worried about giving up his seat that he didn't have the decency to get up and move if he so worried about getting spilled on. That is so rude...and then he took it way too far!!!

Re: I have a crazy LIRR story.
I hate commuter trains!!!! I know how that man felt because people always sit next to me with a FULL cup of coffee and I am always scared it will spill on me. But if I am really nervous, I just will move myself!

I actually think that he did the mature thing. He stood up for himself in an appropriate manner.

He definately did the right thing! Good for him! I would not have been so calm - I would've just dumped my smoothie on him out of spite

That's what I would have done...it would have been worth getting thrown off the train.

What an azz. Sometimes money is not everything if you don't have class. Fh handled himself perfectly.

Thank you for reminding me of why I am so happy not to have to ride the train anymore! :) Your FI is a lot more patient than I think I would have been...part of me would have wanted to spill the smoothie all over that guy!
