I have a dilema. Please help.

I have a dilema. Please help.

I just recently went to pick out my bridesmaids dresses. I had my MOH and a BM with me so I could pick out a dress that would flatter everyone. We wound up loving a Vera Wang. It was 310.00. Neither one of the girls that was with me had an issue the price and they loved it. But my fiance just told me the my FSIL (who is also in my wedding) says the price is ridiculous. It doesn't help that she's in 6 other weddings. What should I do? Should I stick with the dress or find a cheaper one?

That is a lot of money. Maybe you could offer to pay a portion of it as her gift for being in the wedding?

That's a pricey dress for someone to buy to honor you by being in the wedding party. They still have to buy shoes, foundations, hair/makeup, shower, bachelorette party and wedding gift. There are plenty of dresses that would look lovely and not be such a drain on the pocketbook. JMO.

I really wouldn;t want to pay that price either, but if that's what the bride really wanted, I would go with it. I think you should look for another dress, and if you can't find something similar, then go with the one you really want.

This is what I plan to do if the dress I pick out for my BM is too expensive. I want a dress I love, but I don't want it to be painful for my bridal party!

Did you call around? Get prices at Burtons and I know Vera Wang in the city gives 10% off of bridal parties 6 and more. I called a few places and ending up getting my Laundry by Shelli Segal BM dresses almost $50 off at Bridal Couture in Manhasset.

It is a very expensive bridemaid dress. Since your other girls don't mind you should go for the dress and pay a portion for the SIL. If not, maybe you can pick a cheeper dress.

if everyone couldnt afford it, i wouldnt use the dress

as much as i follow the 'your day/your way' mantra, i think expensive bm dresses dont fit in with that
its a financial burden to be in a BP- be nice to your girls!

I think it would be a lot to ask of someone to pay.
I personally would pay that much for a dress, but I know that most people wouldn't.

How much are bridesmaids dresses in general? I've only been to one store so far and all of the dresses were from $250-300. I didn't realize I was so off-base.

I had the same exact thing happen to me. Vera Wang does make BEAUTIFUL dresses. I put myself in my BM shoes and knew that there is no way in the world that I would pay $290 for a dress if I was a BM. I decided to pick something else that flattered everyone. Even though there was no other dress that we saw compared to the Vera Wang dress but what we picked out was still beautiful and so was price.

That is alot of money. Not to burst your bubble, but I would look for another dress that is similar. Maybe you can bring a pic of the dress that is 310 and find one that is like it.

That's pretty pricy for a BM dress. I spent only $40 more for my wedding dress.

My MOH's dress was $110.

If that's what you love, I would try to find it someplace else cheaper. There are many online sites that I am sure will give you a better price. That is a lot of money to ask someone to pay for a gown.

i dont think that three hundred is way over the top. whenever i buy myself an evening dress for a wedding i spend about three hundred. however, not everyone has the same budget in mind that you may be thinking is appropriate. if i were you i would not sacrifice on the style or quality of dress that you want your bridesmaids to wear, so in order to resolve this problem i would offer to pay for half of the cost of her dress and that way you will both be happy :)

good luck to you :)

That's a lot of money, IMO for BM's to spend. especially after you facor in shoes, a purse, accessories, alterations, and all the gifts for the shower & wedding.

Engagement gift, plus shower, plus bachelorette party, hair/nails/makeup, dress, shoes, jewelry, gift for wedding...does add up, we have all been in WP and know they can get steep. Especially w/ how expensive it is to live on LI :(

I would keep shopping around and bring the pic to other places, you can always search for a replica.

Or pay half.

I am sorry to say that I agree with the other ladies. It sounds like you have your heart set on this dress, but it is pretty expensive. I would feel uncomfortable picking out a dress that is more than about 150. Shop around a little more, maybe bring your FSIL with you.... but it will all work out!!
