I'm trying to loose about 12-15lbs. before the wedding (I think I could do it, right ) and was wondering
Is there a certain amout of calories you are supposed to eat a day in order to loose weight/maintain weight loss? What is that number or does it vary for different weight ranges?
And last question, Is there a listing of different foods and amount calorie for each food - in order for me to keep track?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: I have a few questions re: calories....
I once heard that if you take your weight and multiply it by 13, that is the amount of calories you need to take in to maintain your weight if you're moderately active.
For example, if you're 150 pounds: 150 x 13 = 1,950. If you take in that many calories and you're moderately active, you'll maintain your weight. If you take in less calories, you'll eventually lose.
I found that to be true for me when I lost a lot of weight years ago. HTH.

Jenn P, that is correct. If you're inactive, multiply your weight by 13. Moderately active, multiply by 14. Very active, 15.
To lose weight, subtract about 500 calories from your total and go with that number.

You need to burn about 3500 calories in order to lose just one pound... So if you average that out per day you can usually figure out how many calories to cut and how much exercise you ahev to do.
also WATER, WATER, WATER, can't say enough good about it, I drink over a gallon a day. It flushes your system and a lot of times you think or feel hunger you are dehydrated. so DRINK up.
