I have a problem

I have a problem

My FH isnt talking to one of his sisters. Its a really long story but I'll try to sum it up for you.

My future father in law was diagnosed with cancer stage 4 last Jan. His oldest daughter was scheduled to go abroad to Australia for the semester the day before he went in for major surgery. My FH was so angry at her for not cancelling the trip. I understand both sides. If it was me I don;t think I could have ever left my father, but my future father in law told her to go. So she went.

Since she came back in July...my FH isnt talking to her. He went through about 8 months of depression while his father recovered...thankfully he is in remission.

Still my FH says he hates his sister. He doesn't even want her at the wedding....but I asked her last December to be a bridesmaid.

We were talking about presents and he said that he doesnt want anything from her and if she tries to give him anything he won't take it.

He is taking it to another level...but I do understand why he is mad. I try to stay out of it, but its affecting the whole family. His other sister is really upset and so are his parents.

I'm talking to his sisters online now. This is causing the holidays for his side of the family to be much less than perfect

sorry to vent for sooooooo long!

Re: I have a problem

im sorry to hear you are having to be stuck in the middle of this. i think his sister and him need to talk face to face. He will regret it in the end if he doesnt resolve this and I am sure his father would love to have this more than anything. It sounds like he is angry for having been there alone. was his sister and him close before. Good luck with everything. im sure it will work out.

I am so sorry to hear that. How is FH's father doing now? Hopefully he is okay. This is really hard to do, because you really want to help, but sometimes the best thing to do is let them (meaning FH's family work it out amongst themselves) Be there to listen, but it is really up to them to come to a resolution. As for his sister being a BM, I would wait a wahile, see what happens between them and then make a decision. Hopefully as the holiday approaches, they will be a ble to clear things up.

Re: I have a problem

He and his sister were best friends before this. My father in law to be is doing much better. Cancer free for the past 5 months. We now have other problems to over come due to the cancer but as a whole he is doing well. Thanks for your kind words. It makes me feel much better.

I have tried to stay out of it as much as possible. I hope that this Christmas will be much better than last years. I know his dad would love it if everyone got along.

I'm sorry you are stuck in the middle. I dont want to sound rude, but I think your FH is being a little immature about this whole thing. I understand that he was upset, but its over and done with and he needs to let it go. He's holding on to it for no reason, and instead of enjoying the holidays with his family, he is going to cause a lot of unnecessary stress. Even worse, he is destroying what was once a great relationship with his sister -- he will eventually regret that if he holds this grudge too long. His sister made a decision (one that in your FH's opinion was a bad one), but she did what she felt she needed to do and I think he needs to respect that. JMO.

I understand both sides-personally I wouldn't have gone. But with that being said, your FH has to make a decision. Is he never going to talk to his sister again-if so, then I could understand not having her at the wedding. But if some day he plans on talking to her again-he has to talk to her now and forgive her for leaving. Anytime not spent talking to eachother is a waste and they can never get that lost time back.

I can understand both sides, I would have cancelled my trip no matter what due to fear that I may never see him again.
I think in 1 sense FH has every right to be upset, but at the same he is taking it a little too far.
FH and his sister need to talk, there is no reason for him to be like that. He needs to talk to her and get all of his anger out and tell her what the issue really is-b/c I think it may be something else too other than just his father.

Good Luck and I hope his father has many more healthy days, and I hope they figure out their problems before he regrets his actions
