FH is coming to pick me up from the city (cause I have a huge brand new toaster oven) and I want us to go and check out some stores to buy him a new suit.
so any rec's as where should we go? anyone know of a store? we have very small budget

I was going to suggest Brioni 57 E 57 Street - handmade Italian suits. It might be expensive. . .

Maybe Filene's Basement? I don't know if they carry suits...call 'em?
Also, I think a JC Penney's opened near/in the Manhattan Mall...they should have suits within a small budget.

We got FH suit at Macys a few months ago- it was very reasonable.

I'd check out Century 21 definitely. There's also a tux place in Queens on Queens Blvd. It's right on the blvd. about a block away from 63rd Drive, but they had really nice suits and GREAT prices!
