I have a question...

I just had a dr visit, and we are now currently TTC. I forgot to ask, and I have heard conflicting opinions on this...
What do you do if you dye your hair? Is it safe to do while pg? What about highlighting? I know this may sound vain, but if I can't dye my hair while pg I need to know so I can go back to my natural color (whatever that may be!)! Thanks girls!!!

Re: I have a question...

This is another one of those things that varies with each Doctor's opinion. I have heard that there is no research that it is harmful, but there is no research that it is NOT harmful (does that make sense ?) Most doctors advise AGAINST any type of hair dyeing or highlights. It really varies with doctors and with moms-to-be. Its like the things we are told not to eat (Hot dogs, feta, cold cuts, fresh mozzarella, etc etc etc) some eat them all and some dont even look at them. Its a personal decision on whether you want to go ahead and 'chance' it (hate to word it that way)...
Hope no offense was taken....

Re: I have a question...

I read that highlighting is okay because the color doesn't touch the scalp, but who knows if the source was correct or not?? I am going to have to do some very serious research before that dust works!

Re: I have a question...

JennRenee, thats what I would think too! Since I do both (dye and highlight), I figured maybe I could just get away with cap frostings! Plus, I've noticed some gray hair coming in

Re: I have a question...

My doctor told me to refrain until after the first trimester is over. (single process) The products they make these days are not the same ones of 30 years ago so they've come a long way but to be safe, I waited. But with any pregnancy questions that pertain to your health or the baby's development, I suggest you always refer to your doctor on top of any online or book-found advice.

Good luck!!!!

Re: I have a question...

Definetly check with your Doctor to put your mind at ease. My sister, Cousin and myself all colored our hair during our pregnancies. My sister had started labor and we were timing her AND the timer for her color on her head!! She couldn't deliver with roots! lol... It may just come down to how comfortable you are with it once you speak to your doc.

Re: I have a question...

My doctor said it was okay (I usually just do a temp color to cover some of the gray) but I let it go during my pregnancy. I figured better to be safe than sorry and it isn't too bad. I've also heard that highlighting is okay since it doesn't touch the scalp.

Re: I have a question...

I was told that if I was going to dye my hair, to use vegetable dyes and that highlighting was ok. I waited until after my 6th month to re-highlight, though.
