I have a question that may be too personal, but I'll ask it anyway

My friends have a six month old. For the first few months the baby slept in a basinette (sp?) next to their bed. My friend mentioned something about having sex while the baby was in the room and I just about fell off my couch. She laughed at me and told me that they have sex in front of her all of the time. Is this something that typically occurs in the first few months of a baby's life??? Would you have sex with your baby in the room? Can you not leave a baby in a swing chair in another room? I am no prude, but this one has me shocked.

I guess to each his own, but that won't be happening in my house...

Not a mom yet but I would NOT do this.

To each their own, but I can't even stand it when one of three dogs or my cat is around!

THIS I find gross too!

Eww, definitely no pets, either!

I was so put off, but she was totally nonchalant about it. I thought maybe it was one of those things that people without babies don't know about.

I don't think this will be happening in my house, please... I feel like the baby is watching now and I don't particularly care for it!

Hmmm, I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

If my baby is one month old, I cannot see myself putting the baby somewhere else so I can get it on.

If the baby is sleeping soundly, then what's wrong with that?

I would do it only when the baby is asleep.

We did when Damien was sleeping.

You will see when you have a baby sometimes any minute you can get together you will be thankful for

You don't want to leave them in a swing or somewhere else unattended.

We did when Ryan was sleeping - like Stacey said, sometimes you just have to take your chance when you can get it. I think this is another one of those things I said I would NEVER do and then find myself doing it -- there seem to be lots of those!!

Seriously... sometimes I leave Nicolas alone when he is sleeping in his swing or bouncy seat. I don't go more than a room away. Is this something I shouldn't do?? If it is I'm going to feel terrible...

I meant while you are getting busy

I leave the room for moments at a time too

Jenn, don't feel bad, I don't think a room away is bad in normal circumstances.
But as far as getting intimate with hubby - I would fear of getting distracted and not hearing if the baby starts to cry or whatever. . .
If he's sleeping in the room, I can enjoy hubby and still feel close enough to the baby.

That makes perfect sense. Thank you!

Would you do 'it' if the baby was in the room and awake?

My thoughts EXACTLY!

No! We waited until Sean was in his own room @ 7 weeks!

And Jenn Renee... good gravy, if ya didn't leave him 'alone' (and safe!) for a few minutes, when would you get anything done!

We loved our swing which has recently been retired since Sir Sean is a wee bit active (read: almost took a header out of it and scared mommy to DEATH!! ). With it, I was able to make a sandwich, throw in some laundry, make a call, brush my teeth!!
Now I have to do most of that when he's napping.

I think this is where I'd draw the line
