I have a silly election question

Is it whoever reaches 270 first wins? or do they wait to see how every state votes?

I'm sorry if this is dumb, but this is the first year i'm really following the election.

I believe the one who gets 270 first wins becasue according to the electoral votes even if they were to wait for the other states there is no way the other person can win.

there are a total of 538 electoral votes. whoever wins the majority of those votes - 270 - wins the election.

ETA: don't feel silly asking, the electoral college sukks, and many people don't quite understand it. it's very antiquated, and should be done with - JMO
