I Have Anxiety!

I Have Anxiety!

Can someone please give me a recommendation of how to get rid of it? Benadryl does not work for me because it will help me get to sleep but not stay asleep. I'm getting 2 hrs of sleep at a clip for the past 4 nights. I wake up having mini anxiety attacks about work and the wedding. I know I'm not alone here so how did my fellow LIW Ladies deal with it when it happened/happens to you?

agree about the breathing.
also, repeat calming phrases to yourself.
I use: everything will work out in the end.
I'll get everything done, just need to enjoy the process.
Now is the time for rest so I can be productive tomorrow.

or you can just use one word:
Peace
Relax

over and over

try getting a progressive relaxation CD to put on when you're going to bed.

whatever else relaxes you....baths, yoga, etc.

if you try a lot of stuff (eta: that doesn't help), consider seeing your doctor or a counselor. Do you have an EAP to call?

believe it or not...Chocolate milk! I used it last night. and if you are really bad...NiteQuil. There is no waking up after that.

Hang in there things will get better

I love to take hot baths when I'm anxoius...I usually put lavendar in the bath too, which helps relax and calm.
Yoga really relaxes too...i actually took a yoga class one semester at college, and that was my most relaxed semester ever!

put on some relaxing music, light some pretty scented candles, lay down and close your eyes. have FH give you a massage (and more? ) Take a warm bath.
I don't understand what benadryl is supposed to do for anxiety, thats an allergy medication.

Try yoga to help relax your body...or even some pilates stretching...or put on some soft music and candles...just take some time to focus on you and nothing else

Thank you so much everyone. I had mentioned the Benadryl because someone in my office had told me it would help me get to sleep so I can relax. FH just told me he is sending me for a massage on Friday for my b-day. Hopefully that and some girls nite out fun on Saturday will do the trick. I have done yoga before and think I will start again if I keep having these anxiety problems. You ladies are the best!!!!

About an hour before you want to go to bed, relax. Don't watch tv or go on the computer. That should help you a little.

the only that that helped me was to take care of wedding stuff and get everything booked.

then I felt soooo much better.

before that I couldn't even sleep.

Remember...the world does not begin and end with wedding planning. It all works out in the end and you look back and think, 'hey that wasnt as bad as I thought'

I try to close my eyes and count to 10 and breathe and out. sometimes i have to go as high as 30 before i feel better!

The problem is I've programmed myself to fall asleep to the sound of the tv in the background and FH turns it off when he comes into the room later on. I'm going to try to get myself out of that habit. Thanks Hollie!!!

I definetely wouldnt be taking Benadryl if you have anxiety. Oddly enough even though you think it would help you to relax and put you to sleep, it actually is considered a stimulant. I can't take Benadryl, Dimetapp, and many other OTC medications b/c they cause me to have palpitations.

Re: I Have Anxiety!

Here are some helpful tips for a good night sleep from the Ambien website.....

Go to sleep and wake at the same time each day.
Keeping a regular sleep schedule, even on weekends, may help develop a sleep-wake rhythm that encourages better sleep.

Avoid caffeine late in the day.
Caffeine — contained in tea, cola, and chocolate, as well as in coffee — is a stimulant and can cause problems for people trying to fall asleep.

Watch your diet.
A heavy meal or spicy foods before bedtime can lead to nighttime discomfort, and fluids can require disruptive trips to the bathroom. A light snack, however, can prevent hunger pangs and help you sleep better.

Exercise regularly.
Regular exercise has been shown to improve sleep. Exercising in the morning or afternoon — at least three hours before bedtime, so you won’t be too “revved-up” — may help you get a deeper, more restful sleep.

Create a relaxing bedtime routine.

Read a book
Listen to music
Practice relaxation techniques
Take a warm bath
Keep the temperature in your bedroom at a comfortable level: extremes can disrupt your sleep
It also helps to minimize distractions, such as noisy clocks, bright lights, and uncomfortable clothing or bedding

Get out of bed if you’re not sleeping.
If you don’t fall asleep within 15-30 minutes, get up. Get back into bed when you feel sleepy.

I agree too. I get mini panic attacks, and now that I know what they are, FH helps me focus on my breathing, and gets me thinking and talking of something else.
