i've been getting over a wicked cold...and now I have laryngitis...my voice is totally gone.

This sounds gross but if you have to talk (say for a presentation or what not) drink Lemon Juice (like the Real Lemon which is in the bottles) before hand. I totally lost my voice in HS and I had a choir concert that I had to attend....and I drank the lemon juice all day and I was able to sing.
