Re: I have my ring soaking...
The soap might leave a residue. My jeweler told me to use 1/2 water and 1/2 ammonia.

I was told by my appraiser that the amonia can actually damage the stone. She said hot water with a little dish soap should do the trick.

I was told that Windex does wonders and it does!

Re: I have my ring soaking...
I have heard that also about the soap leaving a film. Dishwasher soap is supposed to be great though! I have also heard that toothpaste works as well. Haven't heard anything about ammonia.
I bought a little $3 jewelry cleaner at Zales-- it works great1 It has a little and a little brush and it sparkles the ring right up!

Well, if I rinse it really well and have it steamed later...Maybe it won't leave any film?
I've heard that Windex can dye the stone blue...But I find that hard to believe. Diamonds are supposed to be the strongest substance.

What if FH/DH gets on your nerves that day, can you use his toothbrush?

Re: I have my ring soaking...UPDATED
Holy!
I did some heck of a job!! Flooded the kitchen at work...But my ring looks AMAZING.
First I soaked it in water with a touch of dishsoap for 15 minutes...Then I used the little spray gun and blasted it at close range with hot water for about a minute on each side...It looks amazing...And I highly doubt there'll be any residue! I will visit my jeweler on lunch and have her steam it...And then it should be perfect...

I soak mine in rubbing alcohol or Wisk Stain Detergent/water. Both are amazing!

I try and bring mine to the jeweler every once and a while so that he can also check on the setting. While I am there he cleans it... added bonus!

Re: I have my ring soaking...UPDATED
My jeweler said to soak it in Fantasic and rinse with warm water -- I haven't tried it, I've always got it cleaned at my jeweler.

Do you use the white kind? Is there a specific brand I should use?

I use jewelery cleaner from fortunoffs. Works great and it was free. (We got it in a gift bag when we went to one of their early bird registry events.)
