Dont any average priced neighborhoods exist.

I'm not looking to buy in Long Island, so my search results give me hope.

Wacky I am SOO SICK of looking for a house... we just got turned down for ANOTHER bid.. this house was an undormered cape that needs MAJOR MAJOR work.. the seller is so unrealistic its not funny..

MY friend told me that they were looking for 2 years and then finally they were sick of getting into bidding wars with people so they called up the realestate and said no more MLS only exclusives.. they found their house 2 months later... Thats what we just did.. only exclusives...

I don't even want to think about it when I start looking for a home. I look at the houses here on LI and I don't think they are worth what they are asking for. Enzo only wants to live on LI or in Douglaston Queens, I told him good luck. Douglaston is definetly out of the question.

Sorry Suzzane, hopefully this will work out.
Its so aggrevating, but Im sorry. Paul and I will have to save for 2 years to have a really decent down payment

My friends keep saying forget about the 25% and just put 10-15% but them we will be paying about $3000 a month. What the hell I want to go on vacation every year.

Alina hubby hates NJ dont know why. But he says hell never live in NJ or Suffolk.

While you are looking for a house right for you just keep saving. I understand what you are saying, you want to do it right so you guys can be comfortable. Don't stop looking between the 2 years because the right house can come along any time.

Douglaston is majorly expensive. Just a co-op alone starts at 200K.

Wacky have you looked into the 80/10/10 loan?

I've been looking in New Jersey... specifically Mercer and Hunterdon counties. My dream is to live as close as possible to New Hope, PA (one of my favorite places in the world!)

wacky, my former SIL and family lived in Southington! Beautiful family neighborhood!! For what you get, prices are reasonable (esp. compared to the LI market).

Here's the downside, though...it used to take us 2 hours to drive from Queens. Southington is about midway between NYC and Boston. The closest 'big' city is Hartford. If you don't have to commute to NYC, I'd recommend the area.

I hear ya!! We decided to move back to NY. But LI is out of the question. So we are actually looking at Orange County.
I'm not to keen on living 'upstate', but we can get a house for 300-375k. Brand New!!
So that's what we are planning on unless LI real estate crashes in the next few months!
We can hope!!
