I have to drive to the Meadowlands tomorrow...

...from Kings Park (Suffolk). What is the best time to go and what is the best route? I want to get there fast with little or no traffic

Late morning/ early afternoon.

Around 4pm.. it starts to get very crowded and driving is bumper to bumper as the rush hour starts. Hope you can avoid traffic!

I have to go there for Society of Cosmetic Chemists Supliers Day (it is a trade show). The hours are from 9-4. I don't have to be there the whole time.

If there is no traffic...you can make it there in about 1 hour and 20 minutes. I would say leave after the rush hour on LI.

As for directions....take the LIE to exit 30 and take the Throgsneck Bridge to the Cross-Bronx Expressway to the George Washington Bridge. When you get off the GWB, follow the signs to NJ turnpike. Take NJ turnpike south to exit 16W and follow the signs to the sports complex (Meadowlands). The meadowlands is only about 5-10 minutes over the GWB. That's the most direct route. Let me know if that helps.

You could take the grand central parkway (nothern state turns into grand central when you hit Queens), to the Triboro Bridge. Take the Harlem River Drive towards Manhattan and take that to the GWB. There MIGHT be a little less traffic that way, but it's a little more confusing because the signs aren't as clear. When you get off the GWB, follow the same directions to the NJ turnpike.

I will go the first way because I am pretty sure I went that way before.

Do you know what time the traffic starts for coming home?

We get to the meadowlands by taking the LIE to the midtown tunnel, go across town to the lincoln tunnel and pick up the turnpike there. The meadowlands is one of the first exits.

It's a fairly straight route and I just can't stand the cross bronx expressway - except for late at night, it takes forever to get to the GWB.

I agree the cross bronx could be bad...but I would never go through midtown manhattan if I didn't have to.

If you leave by 3, you should be at the beginning of rush hour. I used to live in Queens, and I would leave work at 5...no problems getting home, but once you get to the LIE it will be bad.
