I am soooooo upset right now! FH and I reallyyyy wanted Waterford China. His family is off-the-boat Irish (Waterford is an Irish company for those who don't know), and along with the Waterford crystal we registered for, we also did China. His grandmother was so excited abt this. We originally chose one pattern, then it got discontinued. We were really upset, but found one of their brand new designs and chose that. We notice that on BBB it was bumped to the only available in-store section. We started to get worried, but left it alone. Now, my fmil just calls me and says that a family member went in-store to buy it, and it is a 6-8 week backorder. The lady at the store said most likely it would take even longer then that because no warehouse in the country has it right now, and in doing research, apparently with this crappy economy we're having, Waterford might be going out of business!! Sooooooo we're back to the drawing board on finding new China, and I we are definitely switching companies. I'm so bummed!!!!!!!

Awwww!!! Sorry to hear that! I know its a pain but its better to find out now... know what I mean? The same thing happned with all my Waterford crystal glasses. The were on back order foreverrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! I finally just got the last glass a few days ago... but one thing just to be aware of... when they shipped my glasses only one set of 4 came in the original Waterford boxes. The others (all 44) came wrapped in macys boxes. Which I hated because it takes up like 10 times more room... so if you can just make sure you get the original boxes. Sorry I went off track lol!

Wow, I had no idea about troubles with Waterford! I'm also Irish (some of my fam are off-the-boat too) and I was really looking forward to registering for some nice Waterford. I feel for you - it's not just items that are discontinued...it's a lot more personal than that when there's a cultural connection. This stinks!

Exactly! It's more about the personal feelings then the pattern. I know it won't be a problem to find something else. I just really wanted Waterford! I'm glad I was able to give you a heads up. Our crystal glasses are still fine though. I hope by the shower they're still there!
That stinks - it may come back in stock though in time for your shower...

I am also registered for Waterford china and knew all about them filing for chapter 7. But from what I heard, they were bought out by an American company and they should be ok. My china pattern is brand new from Waterford and I notice BBB usually does not have it in stock, nor do they have the accessories for it. I registered for it at Macy's. It's the Ballet Icing collection:

I have Wedgwood china which was bought out a few years ago by Waterford. Check their patterns out as well.

Waterford was bought so they are not going anywhere, yes they might discontinue china patterns but Waterford as a company is ok. Also just an FYI Waterford NEVER discontinues crystal patterns they retire them but you can always get them directly from them. Just incase any girls have that issue

my mom and i just went to macy's today and checked out some china patterns. i've been in love with the same waterford pattern for a while now and we've been back and forth on it because my mom heard about them filing for backruptcy or something like that. but the lady in the registry area today said that the company is totally fine now....still i dont know...i would hate to register for my china and then have my family run into problems with it being on back order...

I'm sorry ! I believe like other posters said Waterford was bought out, so I wouldn't worry about that. If you really love it,leave it on the registry for people to buy. Maybe your mom, aunts, FMIL could try to all get you your settings. ( I'm sure you don't mind if it takes longer to come in) If it being discontinued bothers you, there is a website called replacements.com which sells I think every china pattern ever created! My mom has gotten a lot of pieces for an old pattern she has, and a good family friend finished off her waterford pieces that she never got 40 years before!

Which pattern did you fall in love with? You should try Macy's - BBB does not carry AT ALL the Waterford pattern I picked out. I wouldn't worry too much about Chapter 11. Honestly, Lenox just filed and they are still making things! Waterford joined with Wedgwood a liitle while back so I'm sure they will still produce pieces. Also, some of their 6-8 week orders of things are things that are 'made to order'.

This is the one I just had to take off my list!! My e-party is around the corner and a LOT of family members want to give us place settings. Since they're not available for at LEAST 6-8 weeks, we went last night and registered for Lenox china.
Edit: Oops, that was supposed to be in response to Laura's Ballet Icing quote.
I think I'm over it. If ppl really want to give us place settings for our e-party and they're not available, I'd rather just switch.

The ballet icing? Macy's has it and it comes pretty quickly when ordered. My dad ordered me 4 place settings for my e-party and it came within a week. Macy's has the whole collection, BBB only offers the place settings, not the rest of it. I think b/c it's brand new. If you really want that china (which I love btw), just open a Macy's registry and put it on there.
