Re: I have to get a second job!

My dad is helping with the wedding bills but I am working extra processing tax returns at night until tax season is over. Every little bit helps...

It's hard!! I think I might just have to get a side job too!!

I already have two jobs and I am in graduate school but I am looking for one job that will be better so that I don't have to work both!

Re: I have to get a second job!

I have a second job, and FH is looking for one.. not really for all the wedding related expen$e$ but for moving expenses...
Neither of us has lived away from home (except for college) and we don't want to stuggle so we are saving and saving.. for the new furniture and to have a little cushion in the bank..I'm pretty lucky, our parents are helping us, and my sister(MOH) is paying for our invitations and favors as a gift to us. My brother (GM) is paying for the reception & church flowers as a gift to us...
I feel soo blessed to have such wonderful support.

Re: I have to get a second job!

I've been working a second job for four years now (doing either market research or what I do now, research analyst for a employment verification firm). It gives me that little edge over my bills every month and has helped to pay off some of our enormous debt.

It sucks though, especially in the summer when I can't go outside and enjoy the warm evenings. But this is life on LI and we just have to deal with it.

Re: I have to get a second job!

I work my full time job 5 days a week as a music teacher, then I work 6 days a week for a total of an extra 26 hours a week to rake is some extra dough. In my case, it's TOTALLY worth it because I make more in those 26 hours of extra work than I do in two weeks at my day job (I teach privately at night and on Saturdays, so don't think I'm doing something illegal ). But JT works 40 hours a week then another 20 ontop of it. I mean, this is life. You want a wedding, a house, nice cars, etc, you have to give up a little of your life for a while, y'know? You just do it and know it's for the greater good in the end, and it's not so bad.

Re: I have to get a second job!

i got the second job before i got the first job . basically, my plan was to teach/sub and then waitress to make some extra cash. but the waitressing is happening first. oh well.

that is the thing. on two incomes, we would be cutting it close, but just having another job provides the extra $ for savings that offers peace of mind.

Re: I have to get a second job!

You're not alone!! We are also paying for everything ourselves (including my mom's dress) and we are closing on our house in a month.

We both work for a great company, but no OT. I have been seriously considering the weekend job - but I don't even know what I'd do???

ets: we work about 55 a week, we don't get paid overtime

Re: I have to get a second job!

We would probably be fine if we just worked our regular jobs, but we wouldn't be saving for the house at the same time as the wedding. I'm also in a GREAT position to be living with my parents and paying very minimal rent, so I guess I am not really one to go by. But still, I want a house and a wedding, so I do it and know it will be better in the end
