I have to know this..

I have to know this..

Why does everyone get a Newlywed Chop? or rather why grow out your hair for the wedding? I mean I have long hair now, I have had it for yrs before. I'm like it you like short hair then why not do it for your day.

I've never really had short hair (like this) but I knew I wanted to do it after the wedding because I wanted my hair to look like ME at my wedding.

I also was growing it to donate it to Locks of Love....so that's my Newlywed Chop story.

I grew my hair out for the wedding b/c I knew I wanted an updo and I wanted to make sure they had enough hair to do whatever I wanted. But I have the habit of growing my hair out long and then cutting it short again. So it's just part of my normal 'cycle' for me.

I'm growing mine out because short hair limits the kind of styles you can have for your wedding...but I guess people cut it because short hair is no fuss...i'm not going to do a newlywed chop though....i'm just going to get highlights, FH loves when my hair is long

I'm growing my hair out because my hair/ MUA threatened to kill me if I cut it before the wedding.

Well, I had long hair all my life and decided to donate it to make wigs for people with cancer because I thought it was a nice idea.....anddddddddddd I didn't want to do it before the wedding to SHOCK all my friends and family.....so I did it affter.....

is it that strange?

I always just imagined that with married life comes more responsibility and thus shorter hair makes life easier. Of course this is a real '50's', old-fashioned way of thinking.

I want to do the chop after the wedding but FH doesn't want me to - he LOVES the long hair but it was so much easier when it was short! I had shortish hair when I met him. Maybe I'll just do it and not tell him

No because I do it about every two years and I wasnt targeting you with my question so I hope you didn't think that. I was looking at FH's cousins myspace and she just put up her CHOP, we have ever seen her with short hair and i told FH alot of the girls here do it so he was like ask them why... of course then he made me promise to NOT do it .

I guess for a change, or to remove all the dead ends, to look more like a wife? there could be so many reasons.

Re: I have to know this..

i always do different things to my hair but i stopped cutting it after we got engaged and i started 'growing it for the wedding' - which was the stupidest thing i ever did it was SO LONG and it did absolutely nothing for me so i decided to cut it a few weeks ago - now i feel back to normal - i dont know why i was letting one day dictate my hairstyle - its kind of silly actually....i got sick and tired of having long hair and felt like it was such a waste to grow it - i can find a short hairstyle i like and i can use extensions if i want - so there was really no point in growing it.....i dont know why so many people cut it after the weddng - i guess they are sick of 'growing it' or they want a new hairstyle b/c they feel like a new woman?

That's what I'm thinking. And like I said in my original reply, it's SO much easier.

I miss these days (me on the left):

IF I ONLY had the guts .... It's really cute!!! right now mine is 1/2 way down my butt I have not cut or colored it for a yr (yeah its a mess) I am getting it colored and cut back to normal (1/2 down my back honey blonde with highlights) 2 weeks before the wedding.

Re: I have to know this..

I have short naturally curly hair, and it's VERY hard to grow it out.

Since it's easier to cut than to add hair, I'm growing it out for the wedding...it'll be cut after that

Re: I have to know this..

I usually grown my hair longer for the winter and chop it for the summer. I let it grow extra long for the wedding because I wanted to have it all up, which for me looks more formal. I just chopped it all last week shorter then ever because I just couldn't take my hair with this humidity anymore.

I aam growing it for the wedding, but right after I am chopping I might do it on the honeymoon- I dont think I can't wait to come back home to do it.
