I found a dress orginally for $280, but I am able to order it from Phyllis at Bridal Elegance for 197.00. Do you think this is a lot of money???
Am I being unreasonable asking them to spend this much on a dress.

Re: I hope the 06 girls can help me?????
My BM dresses were $150. I didn't want to go much over that, because I didn't want my girls to pay a lot of money. I personally feel $200 plus alterations and shoes is a lot of money to ask your girls to pay. However, that is just my opinion. If you really like the dress, talk to the girls and see what they have to say.

I think that's a bit too high. JMO. I actually asked the girls what they'd be willing to pay, which helped me in my quest. Mine were $139
If you're set on the dress, think of other ways to help them. Do they have to buy new shoes or possibly wear ones they already own? (If it's a long dress, who really cares?) Do you want to pay for a portion of their dress? Do you want to pay for them to get their hair done? There's many things to think about.

i think its fine. mine were $210 and than with alterations and stuff most girls spent under $300.
i really was trying to keep it under $200 - but i loved my BM dresses. i wanted to be a BM @ my own wedding!!
most weddings i have been in i spent around $200+ for a dress.

My BM dresses were 200 + minor alterations, but I paid for their shoes and jewlery and I didnt ask them to get their hair or makeup done. HTH.

I chose dresses around the $150 price range, my girls selected one of the styles that was $130 and they each agreed to pay for the extra length to be added to the dress for a train, so they didn't pay more than $175 with alterations.

I think that the $150-$175 range is more acceptable especailly if the dresses require alterations...but if you have your heart on a more expensive dress maybe go for it but make it up to the girls by letting them wear their own shoes or paying for their hair/make-up...
ETA: the dresses I picked were $150 and gave my BMs the option of free alterations (my MIL is a seamstress) but 4/5 girls opted to get matching shoes for $80 which I didn't require but strongly encouraged plus they paid too much to get their hair done and I still feel bad about it...I know that people accept the costs when they agree to be in the BP but in retrospect I feel like I was one of those brides that asked too much

No $200 is very resonable. My BM dresses were bought at Davids bridal, and cost about $180, but then they had ti purchase black gloves which were $22. They didnt even get their alterations done at Davids, they were to their own places and got the alterations done very inexpensive, so u can suggets that to ur BM as well.
I wouldn't try and go higher than $200 for a BM dress, brecause dont forget, if u want them to wear gloves, they have to buy thos, they will need to buy shoes, and get their hair done and make up if they opt to, So it does add up. . . .

i heard one Bride picked out a $400 BM dress, or maybe it was $450 which i think is INSANE considering it wasn't including anything else!

I think the ones my girls got were $170+ alterations. Your # is a bit high, but not crazy, still within acceptable range!

I think it's a bit high. You have to consider alterations, shoes, and other accessories. My girl's dresses were $100 plus alt. Plus will they pay for their hair or will you?

Mine was about $150 or a bit less. She did not need alterations (perfect body!!!).
$200 is a bit high especially if they have to pay for MU and hair.

$200 is a touch high considering all of the other things that need to go into the BM's outfits.
It is not unreasonable tho, but I would discuss it with your girls. My jr. BM's dress was $187 and she loved, loved, loved it, so her mother didn't have a problem paying for it.

i personally think it's a bit expensive. they have to pay for alterations, shoes, pocketbook, hair and possibly makeup. it adds up. i'd try to find something closer to 150 if you can.

Re: I hope the 06 girls can help me?????
made it a point to keep my girls' dress under $200 because I knew the alterations & shoes would cost something. The BM's dress was $150 & I believe the alterations were capped at $35. So the most that my BM's spent was $185 plus shoes.
In my honest opinion, asking a BM to spend $200 on a dress without alterations is a bit high especially considering the other costs that are not included. If you are concerned, why not ask your girls for their honest opinions. I gave my BM's the choice & they felt more involved
