Please stay away from Longwood. I was treated like crap there and it has only gotten worse... and there are some very nice areas in Longwood.

I went to Pat-Med and had good and bad teachers, and had good and bad/very bad friends. I did my student teaching in Longwood and I'm currently subbing there, the teachers that I have worked with there are wonderful! I think it depends on what teacher your child has. The peer influences are the main issue of concern for me, but I think that depends on the parents not the schools. I student taught in Sayville and found that compared to Longwood the kids were the same, except the ones in Sayville had real Coach bags.

Same here - I'm from Port Jeff and the school system here and in the surrounding towns is very highly rated.

I was referring to the high school. MIserable. I can't even tell you how I got treated when I got sick junior year when I was ranked 19 out of 765 kids. I had to fight for a tutuor to be able to graduate and I still didn't get to graduate on time. ANd I could tell you half a dozen stories of kids falling through the cracks, they just don't care and the school has gotten even more disgusting since my time 10 years ago.

Re: I hope we can keep this thread non popcorn
Sorry to hear that JLW Sad to say I was one of those kids too. Just passing, later on as an adult I was told that I had ADHD as a child. It would've been nice if they told my parents sooner maybe when I was um.....6?
Aw that's funny you teach at Barton Mongie! I live right over there in that neighborhood! I wonder if any of the same teachers are there I'm a little older now so probably not!
I hear West Islip and Babylon school districts are very good. We aren't really looking at Suffolk so much because we work in the city but would move as far as Babylon.
My FH went to the Connetquot school district. He says it's ok.. not the worst and not the best.

I guess it depends on where in suffolk, but the homes in Setauket are gorgeous and Three Village schools are great. Smithtown and Holbrook are also areas I've always liked.

My best friend growing up went to Miller Place, and I can't say enough good things about that school district.

I agree with Mt. Sinai, Port Jefferson, Miller Place. I went to Shoreham-Wading River HS and it's VERY small but nice. East Northport, Northport, Elwood, Harborfields in Greenlawn are all nice too.
