I agree with Mt. Sinai, Port Jefferson, Miller Place. I went to Shoreham-Wading River HS and it's VERY small but nice. East Northport, Northport, Elwood, Harborfields in Greenlawn are all nice too.
Setauket, Stony Brook.
I grew up in Commack, great school district but expensive to live there, taxes are very high. But East Northport & Elwood are more affordable and still great schools.

I grew up in Northport, FH in East Northport, but we both went to Northport School District and both loved it. We definitely want to move back there eventually when we have kids.

I live in Shirley. We got a beautiful house that didnt need any work on a huge piece of land....for a very reasonable price. And our neighbors are great.
BUT the school district (William Floyd) does have a bad reputation.
FH's kids are in elementary school and I have had a great experience so far. I am a bit worried about the middle school and HS...but we have time for that. This was a great place for us to buy a first home without killing ourselves to pay the mortgage.
Towns I would consider if we eventually move: East Moriches, Bayport, Blue Point, Sayville, Miller Place, Rocky Point

I live & grew up in West Babylon. The elementary schools are pretty good, and I believe the Jr. High is good also. The high school....not so much. We dont plan to live here when our kids are HS age...if we do, we agreed if there is no improvement in the school we will send them to private.

I grew up in East Moriches and the school district there is GREAT. I went to Westhampton Beach High School, which has a great reputation. If you live in East Moriches you can pick which high school to go to, Westhampton, Eastport-South Manor or Center Moriches and they are all very good.
I love it out there!!!

I live in Center Moriches and went to Center Moriches HS. I actually really loved my high school. It is kind of small but I think that made my experience better. You could also live in East Moriches and then you have a choice between a few high school's, which someone else mentioned.

I went to Sayville HS, and I still think the town is really nice - if I were to move back to LI (live in Manhattan now), I would look at Sayville, West Islip, Islip school districts. Brightwaters is a great town, but I am not 100% sold on the Bayshore school district.

The Bay Shore school district is CURRENTLY phenomenal! When I was young, it was horrible!!! My parents moved us out of Bay Shore so we wouldn't have to go to school there, but I student taught there and they have really turned it around! The kids are expected to do a lot, but therefore learn a lot. It's also great for diversity. The only problem would be size (it's huge) if you want something personal, but the classes are still small enough so that each kid can have a personalized experience. AND the special ed there is great!
North Babylon (where I live now and where FH went to school) is crap! They put on a great front and look awesome on paper, but the actual education there is stinky. The same goes for Islip (where I went). The teachers are mediocre at best and the departments have no unity or goals. There are a few exceptions to the teachers, though most of them have retired...
HTH!

FH teaches in the Sachem School District - which is rather large and covers a lot of towns. I guess I am biased b/c i find him to be an amazing teacher LOL
He teaches elementary so I can't say much for the upper grades - but I have heard both pros and cons of their district.

I grew up in Manor Park, which is in between Mastic and Manorville, but goes to Manorville districts, I went to South Manor and then Westhampton Beach when we had a choice back then, now they have to go to Eastport South Manor- I heard okay things about the new school but it depends on who you talk to! The houses there are more affordable than Manorville but the same taxes which are ridiculous!!!
BUT Westhampton Beach was a great highschool!

I live and work for Longwood School District. I also am a Graduate of Longwood. Although Longwood has a Bad rep it's not as horrible as some make it seem. Every school has it's Pros and it's Cons. I believe how your school effects you is what you as a person or parent put into it. As a Parent, I can honestly say Longwood's Special Education system is Phenomenal. It has helped my Daughter enormously. Plus, there are some pretty TERRIFIC teachers that teach there too!! Sorry I don't wanna cause but seeing some of the posts on here about Longwood made me very upset. I am sorry some had some bad experiences with Longwood but again that's just someone's not everyone's'.
