I hope you will all read this for all of our sakes . . .

It is very hard to show emotion over a computer. I think this is a major cause of the tension most of the time. I think that the reason for this board is forgotten at times because many things that are said are misconstrued (spelling?).

I know I have not been a member of this board for very long, but one thing I know is that this is a place for fellow brides and brides to be to come to for advice, opinions, to vent and most importantly, for support.

This board is supposed to be a positive place to come to in order to interact with people who have things in common, specifically, planning a very important step toward a meaningful phase of our lives. I know that I can come to this board and receive great advice, honest opinions, and even a couple of laughs.

The last emotions I want to experience here are anger and discomfort.

We all need to take into account two important factors when it comes to taking part in an internet community:
1) Be careful of how opinions are presented- since we are relying on words alone, emotion is lost and many comments are taken the wrong way.

2)Due to the above, remember not to take words too much to heart. We are all good people and trying to help, and odds are, nobody purposely tries to hurt or insult anyone.

I know this is long, and has been said before, but as a very appreciative (newer) member of this board, I just wanted to try and bring everybody back to the true meaning of what we are here for.

Well spoken BriBri. I agree completely. We are all aiming for the same goal here, our individual dream weddings. Let's just try to help each other.

I agree. When a Bride posts something she was not happy with we don't have to jump all over the vendor. I kind of feel that the old saying can hold true that If you have nothing nice to say than don't say anything. Sounds harsh and although negative and positive feedback are helpfu we need to be kinder and like you said we cant put our expressions and inflections in our writing so things can be taken out of context. Just my thoughts. I hope I expressed them the way I meant to.

You are so right! So many times, I delete a reply before I post it, b/c I realize that I am saying something in a way that can only be understood properly if I was also seen.The same sentence can sound so different when it's spoken versus when it is written. I think this has definitely played a role in any tensions on the board - although things have been fine recently.

I just wanted to add if a bride asks for an opinion, I am honest. I don't say something is nice if I don't think it is.
When I ask for an opinion, I like honest helpful answers

Well said. Please keep in mind that any comments are people's own opinions and experiences. I've found this board to be very helpful - and honest opinions to help. People just need to learn to weigh the good with the bad and not take anything too personally.
