I am very fortunate to have been given a few place settings of my china as engagement gifts. Upon suggestion from my sister, I inspect each and every piece for the tiniest imperfection. Even though they were purchased on sale, I still think each piece should be perfect. I found that the platinum rim on two of the small plates was uneven, and that one of the tiny bumps on a plate was flat and not textured as it should be. I may be anal, but this stuff is/will be/could be worth something. I am exchanging the pieces when I have time. I am thinking that some of them may have been seconds. Is anyone else like this or am I a raving lunatic?

Do the stores think you are crazy when you return them and when you return stuff that was purchased on line do they give you a hard time?

OMG! I thought I was the only one.
I made out okay with my china...but as for my crystal...
I actually changed my pattern because I felt like every single piece from my first pattern had problems with it.
And, when I went to complete some pieces from my 2nd pattern, they literally had to bring out their whole stockroom, just for me to find 2 acceptible glasses. That's one of the BIG reasons I got my crystal at Fortunoff - they have it in the store, so I could inspect it there instead of having it shipped and bringing them back to the store a million times.

Yeah some of my china was purchased at MACYS. I am consolidating the sets to make as many perfect ones as possible while I return the others. Thanks guys. Lucky me. I have service for 16. My sister has 18. FH and I come from breeders and if we all ate together at once, I STILL wouldn't have enough. Then maybe I would go to the outlets and buy 2 or three place settings of seconds just to have as extras or replacements!

We had this problem with our silverplated flatware. We went insane with imperfections.
After going through that though, I now realize that it SHOULD have some imperfections because some of it is handmade and humans are not perfect.

Wow, I am bad. I got my china almost two years ago, and one box my stepmother gave me is still wrapped in the fortunoff wrapping paper. I guess I should check it all. I just didn't want to take it out because I know I'll never get it back in the box the right way. I shook it and didn't hear anything making noise. I am so dumb!!

I know people cant be perfect but when someone goes to an expense to buy a gift, they are paying for a certain degree of quality. I wouldn't buy a place setting for someone if it had imperfections in it. Its my own mishigas (as my mom would say).

Not to make light of a very serious issue but did I just give you all OCD?

Someone posted this awhile bakc about MY china pattern actually. I haven't inspected it, but I know I probably should. People are paying a LOT of money for it and I want ti to last me a lifetime and it should be perfect! (otherwise it'll drive me crazy for years to come!)

Brad and I checked everything so carefully, and then we would make up sets of 'imperfects', and return those sets.
