I just emptied my savings account...

For nothing wedding related! I just got my 2008 tax bill in the mail. My taxes were never included in my mortgage so I just got this HUGE bill.

Now there are some serious talks about moving the wedding to 2010.

I wish we didn't spend so much on this condo that I feel like I am stuck in for at least another 5 years or so.. I am already dying to get out.

I'm so sorry. If you don't have one already, make sure you file for a STAR exemption for next year (it helps a little bit). Also, check and see if your condo board is grieving the taxes....maybe they are and you'll have a refund to look forward to?

thanks.. I didnt know ANY of that... I will check out both. I doubt they are grieving the taxes.. I actually dont even know what that means but I am pretty sure there is no refund to look forward to. I think last year I paid them a pro-rated amount since i had just moved in.

Can you pay them in installments?? tell them that you need to pay a little at a time or set up some sort of payment plan.

They have a payment plan... its 2 payments in Jan and Feb lol.. doesnt help much. I have the money so I am just going to pay it and be done with it.. it just means my savings will literallly be gone. I am sorry to vent and be annoying I am just really pissed... since i moved in to this place they have lowered the BIGGEST model price to 40k LESS than what I paid for the smallest model (its a new development). ugh I just feel stuck and I hate living here. I hate suffolk and I hate my neighbors.

if it's a big development, chances are they are grieving it. Most condo boards/managing agents do this automatically.

As far as the STAR program goes, if you're in Nassau County the deadline is 12/31 to apply. If you're in Suffolk, you have until March 31. You can get the forms right online at either Nassau County's website or in Suffolk County, the individual town's website. The only requirement for the basic star is that it's your actual residence.
