I just finished 'The Da Vinci Code' and I am dumbfounded!!
I feel like I was just let in on a huge secret!!
I took the information in the book and all of the historical facts to be unbiased and just there to allow people to have all of the facts before making a decision about their own faith but...WHOA!! It all makes sense!! It is making me question everything I was ever told as a Catholic growing up!! All of the facts that the book discusses about Christ before the Church got involved is making my head spin!!
I am sure this book has been covered here before but this is my first time away from the brides helping brides board and I needed to discuss it!!

Please keep in mind that this is FICTION. And while a lot of it is true there are many unfounded 'facts' There is a book called Behind the Divinci Code that reaffirms the Catholic church. I highly recommend you read it. The Catholic Church has been around for over 2000 years - don't question your faith now.
I don't mean to sound like a holy roller - because believe me I am not - but I felt the same way as you. Trust me - read behind the code.

I know that the story itself is fiction but...fact, fiction, whatever...a lot of it makes sense. It didn't take this book to affect my faith in the Catholic Church...I have always had issues with the Church. (I am not talking about the religion, I am talking about the Church...they are 2 very separate things). I am sure some of the 'facts' are misconstrued to keep the reader intrigued but the content of this book that is factual amazed me.
Granted the church has been around for 2000 years...but who is to say a lot of the truths we were always taught aren't the lies?? I am just saying that it could be possible that there could have been an alternate or all together different beginning. Who is to say that the Catholic Church didn't do a lot of these things and then cover it up?? WE ALL KNOW THE CHURCH WILL COVER UP WHAT THEY DON'T WANT US TO KNOW. I am just playing devils advocate here, it doesn't really affect me one way or the other, but do find it interesting to contemplate and discuss!
I have heard about 'Behind the Code' and that it disputes this one...I would never doubt that there would be one...with any book that qestions the church, there will always be some sort of rebuttal. I am not a holy roller either, by far, and I probably will read the book but unfortunatly now the idea is in my head and I may just keep thinking of 'Behind the Code' as the church covering their a** again!!

I'am in the middle of it now, and I intially thought it would be a hard book to get into to...I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN last night...I finally had to force myself to go to sleep...even if only some of the facts are real ( most are just presented in a different fictional light) it is amazing and opens your mind...thats enough for me..I like books that make you think this way...plus it is a very very easy read for me....

I'm sure i'll pi$$ some people off, but i don't buy the argument 'the church has been around 2000 years, so don't question it'. Paganism is OLDER than Christianity,.... but you see people disputing that all the time. Much of the Bible was taken from other faiths. So it's fine if people want to stay true to their faith.... but don't try to argue it as absolute 'Fact' and tell others not to believe this book because it goes against something 2000 years old. Something written by Men MANY MANY years after these events actually happened. Its sort of like playing 'telephone'.
It's just a book and a lot of it IS true, and some is speculation. And it's ok to question your religion and faith... because if your faith is strong enough, you won't be swayed.

The speculation on the catholic church was interesting, however I found that all the art history was extremely interesting. I loved it!
