I Just Got Bad News

Original post by bluekat16

As some of you may know I'm a contractor at a financial company.

I just found out my contract will not be extended after 12/31. So I will not have a job after the wedding unless I can score something within the next few weeks in this tough job market.

I'm soo sad because I definitely have enjoyed this job and the people I worked with here and the enviornment. My boss is amazing and has already put out feelers to see if there is anything here or outside this company for me.

It's still extremely stressful

That's very odd, I know it has nothing to do with this, but a friend of my family's just got married and she came back from her honeymoon to find she was laid off. Meanwhile she was voted like most valuable employee a few months ago...

Don't worry, be positive. I am sure you will find something soon. DOn't worry about that now, wait after the wedding. See it as a little break from all the planning, an extra mini-vacation. Wishing you tons of luck

I'm sorry to hear it! If you want, FM me... I'm a recruiter at a financial staffing agency in Midtown. I can honestly tell you... and obviously you're aware of what's going on in the market... there is not a lot out there. Not only is it the normal slow down season for hiring, but with the way our economy has taken a turn for the worse, companies are being told to watch their budgets... etc. etc... you know the speech unfortunately.

I can tell you though that I have a few companies that are booming right now! It all depends on what you do and what you're flexible to do until the right opportunity comes along. It never hurts to send me the resume and we can talk. IF anything, it's an opportunity to at least build your network of people to reach out to.

I feel for you because I was in your shoes and lost my job after returning from my honeymoon. Let me know if i can help.
