I just got the weirdest phone call! UPDATE!!!!!! AND MORE!!!!!!

So I'm sitting at my desk working and making calls like I'm supposed to when a call is coming in so I pick it up. This woman says her name and says she's been trying to find my mother for a long time. She said if this is the person she's looking for, she worked in a bank with her mom and gave my mom's description. My mom worked in a bank 40 years ago!!!!!! She then proceeds to tell me she emailed my AOL account with this info, but since she got me on the phone to just disregard it. I asked her why she needs to reach my mom and she said to catch up. So I log-in to my email and sure enough this woman emailed me. I can understand how she was able to track me down on my office phone, but how in the world did she get my email address? She was so specific when she said it too! So I call my mom and tell her and she says this woman has been trying to reach her for 2 days and she has no clue who she is or why she wants to 'catch up'. My mom is really creeped out about it, especially since the woman said my grandfather's name!

I emailed the woman back asking her what is the urgency and how does she know so much info. I know people can find info on the internet, but my personal email address and my home number that is not listed? CREEPY!

UPDATE******************
So I told 2 of my colleagues what is going on and they immediately thought scam and then we were talking about it more and one of them said google her phone number so I did. She is a private investigator that deals with reuniting people!!!!!!!

I called my mom to tell her what I found and my mom said she doesn't want to be found by anyone...there is no one that needs to find her. I told her to check with my aunt to see if they have tried contacting her.

I cannot work now. I want to know what's going on!!!!!

UPDATE 2***************
So I've been talking to this woman pretty much all afternoon because 1) my curiosity got the better of me and 2) I dont like knowing that she got all this info so easily and wanted to know why this was so important to her. Since I'm not my mother, she could not divulge much information other than who the person is that they are looking for. There are a lot of similarities between who the person they are trying to find and my mom, but it's definitely not her. The woman told me a few things specifically that is not my mom. I hope whoever is looking for this person finds her soon!

Something like this happened over the summer to me and my family. A woman called my apt. looking to speak with me... she sounded frantic and she had all of this information about my family, specificlly my dad's side. I eventually hung up with her and she then called my mom and had all this information about my gradfather (who had died the previous year)... we have NO CLUE why she was calling or how she got all of this information.... it was super strange and I was VERY creeped out.

Yikes to you and your mom!

I KNEW I remembered hearing about this from someone!!!!!!!!!!

A PI??? WOW. I wonder if it's a high school friend or something that she was close with and just lost touch with? Could it be someone that worked at the bank? I would be sooooo curious.

My mom didn't work at this bank very long at all. My mom's last name is fairly common so it could be wrong altogether, but there are just too many coincidences related to it. I hope she's reaching out to the wrong person!

Strange. It is so creppy and yet facinating at the same time.

I would definately be weary about it all but I would still want to know.

That is really weird. Your mom had no idea who she was? My curiousity would get to me and I, if I were your mom, would call her, even though it's probably not the best idea. I figure, if she calls from a cell or pay phone, there's no harm. I just need to KNOW too many things.

FH got two pieces of mail last year - each had an article about some car show or a car-related issue (he works on cars), and there was a sticky on each that said, thought you'd be interested in this, and it was signed 'J.' I was soooooo curious. No return address, no signs of a scam .. so I really thought it was someone he knew. Never happened again ...

That happened to me too! I think that was definitely someone 'pretending' to be a friend to try and get you to go to the car show! (Mine was not a car show, but a brochure or something)

My curiosity would get to me...but here are my thoughts....

The working at the bank thing could be the ONLY information she has been able to dig up. It may be totally unrelated.

Secondly, this is a stretch but is there any way your mom gave up a kid for adoption? I know that might be total intrusion of your privacy but I just had to ask because usually adopted children hire PI's to find their original parents. It could be totally wrong information, etc, etc but just a thought. I would call her and see what she wants!

I wouldn't contact this woman again. Your mom said she didn't know her, and the woman basically just pieced together information that she could have gathered from the internet (you'd be surprised how much info you can find on the web if you know what you're doing)....If she is really honest and just wants to get back in touch with your mom she would have more info other than, 'we worked together'...If i had to get in touch with someone I used to work with I would try to say other stuff that would jog their memory more....I dunno, its just creepy....

definitely be careful with this woman... ive heard stories like this before and they never ended well. i have pretty good PI skills if you need any help... lemme know
