FH just sent me an email telling me that when i know my salary for next year I need to let him know so we can adjust our W2 to withhold the correct amount of money from our paychecks because next year we are going to file JOINT TAX RETURNS!
HOLY ****!
This also means my dad will no longer be doing my taxes and FH will now prepare them (they are both CPAs)

WOW! Well good thing he's a CPA so he knows what he's doing. The first year we're going to file as married of course but do separate returns because we're told you get more when married but less when joint so since our wedding is so late we decided 2010 we'll do separate and see how that works out. Once we file together we can't change it so we want to make the right choice on this. Good thing yours in a CPA, I had to ask like 10 people about this before I got an answer HAHA!

I just use turbo tax to do returns.. it is so easy.. and if you use the program you can always see what is better married filing jointly or separately

you can file jointly w/o being married? I know nothing about taxes (FH does them himself w/ H&R Tax Cut software) so now I am all confused...

I'm a CPA....
You can't file a joint tax return unless you are legally married on the last day of the year. So, if you're not married, you can't file a joint tax return.
Also, if anyone uses an accountant to do their taxes and not do them on their own, for your first year, you should ask them to calculate your tax return married joint and married filing separate to see which is the most benefit to you.

FH's return is ALWAYS on extension. I don't want to file jointly! Maybe we'll do married filing separate??

Thank you - that's what I thought..FH and I make roughly the same income (give or take a few thousand, he is eligible for overtime so makes more $).
I dont think I am making any changes to my witholding until I am eligible to file joint returns (which would be 2011)...So that clears that up!
