So one of my friends called me today. She's a bridesmaid in my wedding, and we were just chatting. We grew up together but then grew apart in college. But I wanted her in the wedding, and it was fun catching up with her. So we were talking and she mentioned that her college roomate is also getting married in June next year too and that she's in the wedding. So I said, 'Oh, when is her wedding, June 17th?' (haha, because that is when mine is). And she's like, ' Yours is the 22nd right?' I said no, its the 17th. She's like 'OMG, I just committed to two weddings! I feel like such a S H I T head'. But I told her it was okay, her college roomate wins out. They are closer friends. So now I'm really kind of disappointed. I was looking forward to her being in the wedding and getting to see her again. Now our wedding party is really uneven with 5 girls and 7 guys, and I don't really have anyone that I want to be in the wedding party to replace her.

Re: I just lost a bridesmaid--kind of long...
This is probably for the best. I had a childhood friend in my wedding. We had grown apart during college, but I figured the wedding would bring us closer. And, it did for my 2 year engagement. But, we only kept speaking for about 7 more months after the wedding. haven't heard from her since
And, now it's REALLY weird seeing her in the pictures because I keep thinking about how she probably shouldn't have been in the bridal party anyway.
Don't worry about the uneven count!

If you're worried about the uneven count and you don't have anyone else to put in, just have two guys walk one girl down the aisle--on either side. It looks cool, anyway.

We are very uneven also.
I invited some of my male friends into the wedding and my Fh has lots of friends and family, so there are 9 guys and 6 girls, and that may change to 10 guys!!

Beth, the same exact thing happened to me and the more I think about it, I know it was for the best. We were friends back then, but I have a new life now. Its sad to say but we kinda moved on and we were friends from kindergarten. We still talk but its not the same. My BP is also uneven but I know the people who are in it want to be in it and that feels good.

Re: I just lost a bridesmaid--kind of long...
my bridesmaid backed out the day of the wedding . (had a feeling she was going to pull that crap on me).
All I can say is thank goodness, I told everyone to purchase a black dress. My sister in law had a simple black dress, and voila she jumped right in there!!
Everything happens for a reason. Your wedding will be beautiful!!!

I’m sorry to hear that. But just so you know, I have seen weddings with uneven BP numbers and no one thinks it’s weird at ALL.

my SIL did this with two girls and one guy (that guy was my DH) and it looked really nice :)

Re: I just lost a bridesmaid--kind of long...
I guess what bothers me about the uneven BP is what it means: it means that I don't have all that many close girl friends. And that makes me so sad

I was sad too at first, but I bet if you did a poll if who had an uneven bridal party youd be surprised at how many girls do it now. I think you should only ask those close to you. Dont worry about it being uneven. Most probably wont even notice. Theyre going to be staring at you!

Unfortunalty with the way girls can be, most girls dont have that many friends. My Bridal Party is uneven as well and I refuse to just put anybody in there to make it even. I wanted only my very close friends in there. Dont worry, just be happy that the girls that are there are obviously your very close friends and sometime people dont even have that.

WHY?
(gosh, I WISH my BM from hell backed out the day of. I would have had such a better time without her being miserable all day!)

I am sorry that happened I agree with STUF04...I am having an uneven bridal party too. FH has 4 GM and I have 3 BM's. I decided that I was only going to ask girls that I had known for at least 10 years...I have been in too many weddings where the bride just asks girls to make it even...even though she might not know them that well. No one will even notice that it is uneven SO don't worry too much about i

Better than you found out now. I had two bridesmaids drop out the night of my rehearsal dinner, one day before the wedding. We just had two guys walk each girl and it was fine. At least you don't have her name in your programs and didn't shell out thousands on flowers, plates, gifts etc. like I did.

I thought that being a bridesmaid is an honor. How can so many people want to drop out of weddings, and so close to the wedding? I'm lucky if I'll ever be a bridesmaid, and if I am I will definitely take the honor very seriously.

It used to be an honor. I swear EVERY female in our wedding was more concerned with 'what are you going to do for ME' than 'what can I do to help'...
It's sad, really.

I totally agree with this. My FI wanted 5 guys in his party b/c they were his close friends but I have 4 close girlfriends that I wanted in mine. I decided I wasn't going to ask someone who wasn't that close to me just to have an even party. I don't have that many close girlfriends either but the ones I have are amazing!

I'm so sorry. I just can't imagine why anyone would do that! If you don't mind my asking, what was the reason that they gave you? Sorry if I'm being too forward, you don't have to answer if you don't want to.
