I just lost a bridesmaid--kind of long...

Original post by glinda_goodwitch

So one of my friends called me today. She's a bridesmaid in my wedding, and we were just chatting. We grew up together but then grew apart in college. But I wanted her in the wedding, and it was fun catching up with her. So we were talking and she mentioned that her college roomate is also getting married in June next year too and that she's in the wedding. So I said, 'Oh, when is her wedding, June 17th?' (haha, because that is when mine is). And she's like, ' Yours is the 22nd right?' I said no, its the 17th. She's like 'OMG, I just committed to two weddings! I feel like such a S H I T head'. But I told her it was okay, her college roomate wins out. They are closer friends. So now I'm really kind of disappointed. I was looking forward to her being in the wedding and getting to see her again. Now our wedding party is really uneven with 5 girls and 7 guys, and I don't really have anyone that I want to be in the wedding party to replace her.

our bp will most likely be uneven also. no big deal. my cousin doens't know if she'll be home for it, but once i know for sure, i'll work it out. it s ucks, but having 5 on one side and 7 on the other, is no big deal

I'm sorry

It's okay if it's uneven, just have one guy walk with two girls

Sorry that happened!

But like a few of the girls have said...better that you found out ahead of time. I too had a BM drop out the day of my wedding.

Sorry to hear about your friend! We're having an uneven bp too. It's not fair for FH to cut people and I didn't want to ask people just to have an even number. It stinks that she won't even be able to come to the wedding though

Better than you found out now. I had two bridesmaids drop out the night of my rehearsal dinner, one day before the wedding. We just had two guys walk each girl and it was fine. At least you don't have her name in your programs and didn't shell out thousands on flowers, plates, gifts etc. like I did.

I'm so sorry. I just can't imagine why anyone would do that! If you don't mind my asking, what was the reason that they gave you? Sorry if I'm being too forward, you don't have to answer if you don't want to.

It was actually my cousin and her daughter, so even having the closest people to you isn't a guarentee, but she made up some lame excuse that her baby was sick, which turned out to be a lie, and the truth was she didn't want to leave her husband or should I say he didn't want her to go, so she didn't. What bugged me the most was that I gave her outs along the way sooo many times and she kept saying she wanted to be there and was sooo excited. Never even called after the wedding to say congrats, or apologize again, no card to say congrats, NOTHING!!! Needless to say, I want nothing to do with her again. I actually saw her for the first time in May at a family wedding and she tried to play it off like nothing happened, but I made sure she knew something happened and asked my mother to tell her to stay away. I was very hostile once I saw her!!

I have 5 & 7 & it really doesn't matter. I lost a BM too & honestly it was for the better. It is said that you lost someone you wanted to be apart of your special day but you can still see her & do other stuff before & after your wedding!!
