Hi everyone, I recently got engaged (12/27) and my FH and I decided to not talk wedding until the summer...until i spoke to a couple of friends who got married and checked the message boards... now im freaking out! I need some help with timelines...when did everyone start all the planning(rh, eparty, etc...). I'm going to be a teacher and will hopefully have a job so I'm thinking 8/22 or 8/23/09 for the wedding. any help is greatly appreciated.

welcome!!! and CONGRATS!!!! dont worry and definitely dont freak. give yourselves sometime. we didnt start looking until 5/6mos later (during that time we did plan our eparty)

Dont freak out! That is the #1 thing you have to remember on here. I have gotten myself worked up a few times over the fact that girls have booked everything and their wedding is like 5 months after mine!
Take everything one step at a time. Did you start looking at halls yet?

Don't worry - everyone has a different time line. I booked early b/c I am a planning maniac and went everything done before summer. Have you talked about any halls?

Congratulations and Welcome. We starting planning about a month after we got engaged, but we had talked about stuff before we were engaged. We took a weekend and saw 6 RHs, but we had some narrowed down based on looking at rhs on the internet. We also knew we wanted spring and a saturday night. We also did a budget before we went to rhs. HTH

we got engaged in october i started to look right away. but i'm giving myself time do everything. i have about 1 yr and 9 months before our wedding.. the worest thing u can do for urself is panic there is no need to. do a lil at a time and dont stress urself out... Congrats and have fun with it!

Hi and congrats! Like everyone said, don't freak out you have plenty of time. Just take some time and enjoy being engaged before you start going crazy with planning. Try looking online at some reception halls and see what your style is and go from there!

Don't stress over everything...everybody has their own way of doing things, so figure out what pace is right for you.
I got engaged the last week of August, but then got sick in September, so the last thing I was thinking about was planning a wedding. But I kept coming on here and at least got ideas of what I would and wouldn't want. I have to say I really didn't start doing any real 'planning' until a week or two ago.
You have plenty of time!

First, welcome and congrats. Second, don't freak out. It may seem overwhelming but it's not too crazy once you get into planning full force. Even though you don't plan on 'talking wedding' with him, there's a lot you can do in between now and the summer. You can do all your planning and researching before seeing vendors. Good luck and definitely rely on us for support.

thanks everyone, i feel a little better now. so far, i know that my mom is making my dress, i want a sunday brunch reception and i want abt. 150 guests, but nothing too fancy.
i cant wait to get into the site more and chat with everyone, and i want to join the book club too!

I'm having a brunch too! FH and me love breakfast foods so that was the no brainer for us!!!!
You've got the basics down...now you can just research online and get ideas and you'll be on your way!

Welcome and Don't stress!! you do have plenty of time for an august 2009 wedding!!! I got engaged and started planning right away because that's my personality.. but many people do not do that.....
My advice would be to come up witha list of reception halls you want to check out.. you can look on here under the vendor list... and start making appointments... it's the biggest decision.. and it's the most fun to do....

DONT STRESS!!! These boards will make you panic. We got engaged on Valentines Day and we didn't plan our e-party until May and I didn't book my RH or photog until August. You have PLENTY of time....go at your own pace.
Get your RH and photog done first, then offciant/church, limos, flowers, dress.....
I am not doing anything more until this summer.

First of all congratulations on getting engaged! I'm a teacher too so I can relate to having a very specific time frame in which you are able to get married. I am getting married in summer of 09 as well and yes we do have plenty of time so in my opinion the smart thing to do is to use your time wisely. Many of the popular reception halls do book well over a year in advance. Churches also have limited space as well, most do only 1 or 2 weddings a day. Photographers and bands/djs can also only do one wedding a day. That is why I think those are the items of top priority. Take your time and shop around, but I would definately start looking, it doesn't hurt!!! Why be rushed if you don't have to be???? Just fit the planning in when you are free...no stress! I think you will be surprised by how many vendors already have events booked for summer of 09.

welcome and congrats, well you want to look for a dress about 18-12 mths b-4, you can have an eparty about a year before and also you will want to book you church and then you rh asap!!

Dont freak.... everyone is different... you have still more than enough time! I started to plan like a month after we got engaged, enjoy your time as a finace... it's time you'll never get back!
