i kinda got mad....
I am beating myself up over Thanksgiiving. Basically we had 8 adults here and 2 kids - all my husband's family - and yes. I did the cooking. Not that I didn't WANT to - I really did and it's so important for me to make Thanksgiving everything is was for me growing up - I am still really sensitive that I dont' get to spend this holiday with my family anymore (I had to trade it for Christmas Eve...) but I am trying to create a tradition that means something to me.
I really put a lot into it. I made a beautiful table and decorated with all kinds of things from outdoors, the turkey was glamorous with a deep cranberry glaze and decorated with kumquats and greenery - glitter candles everywhere, it looked really nice. And amazingly everything was done at the same time! I just got so upset becuase EVERYBODY kept telling me to sit down and get off my feet - but it was kind of like being yelled at. It made me feel like they were saying that I didnt' know how much I could do - I mean hello - I am the one who has been pregnant for 7 months. I know what I can handle. I felt totally fine and it meant so much to me that it was perfect, and every two minutes somebody was telling me to stop doing something. I am really looking forward to that part of not being pregnant anymore. I guess I don't like to be coddled like that. And I dont' want to sit and put my feet up in my own home during preparation for Thanksgiving. I mean - nobody even knew what I was making - how were they supposed to do it for me?
I guess I got a little over sensitive, and the whole meal just rushed by - I felt like the 'Special' wasn't there. Everybody kind of ate fast and got up from the table - there was no nice family discussion. My BIL's kids were banging on the piano during dinner and nobody told them to stop. It really upset me. After all that work...
No question - just needed to vent it out a little. I guess the long and short is I missed my family - and when I did take time to call them in the Cape they were all outside playing football, and some were on bike rides to the beach, and my sisters were setting the table. I guess I got a little homesick in a way.
Hopefully I'll be more used to it next year!
