i kno this is a desperat cry but any social workers in NYC or LI with job openings?!

im starting my job search....

any guidence will be GREAT apprecieated...

im in queens now but immoving to LI in november after the wedding... NYC of LI is a possibility.

My company is always hiring.... but its a night job... it's watching tv then writing survey questions that go on a website where panelists answer questions about what they watched -for prizes....

the hours are 7:30- till whenever work gets done, never later 2 am usually more around mid night...

Pay is $14 an hour
If you know Spanish pay is much higher...

I moved up quickly, now im salary and work days as editor...

it's also a good in a pinch job if you find yourself needing one quickly...

I have a social work background and I work for the Boy Scouts of America as a Learning for Life Executive. I market a character education program to schools that teaches job skills, life skills, and values to students in grades K-12. I think in New York the Learning for Life Execs actually teach the kids the lessons. I just market the program, manage volunteers, raise money for the program, run a camp day for my kids, and find career speakers to talk to kids about what they do for a living.

It is a neat job. The hours can be a little crazy sometimes, but the pay and benefits are awesome for the social work field. They seem to be hiring all the time. Turnover is pretty high cause of the long hours, but once you get through the first year or two, it is a cakewalk. They promote you quickly too and give out $50 visa gift cards and trips if you meet your goals.

If this sounds interesting to you, just go on google and type in Boy Scouts of America. You can locate a Boy Scout Council near you and see if they have openings. Sometimes they have openings to work in the traditional side of Scouting with the boys and all, but that is crazy and I would not recommend it cause they work like 60 hours a week, weekends and evenings too!

Definitely post your resume on all those job hunt sites...monster, career builder, etc.

Also, if you have an idea of what path in social work you want to work, look for jobs specifically related to that. Ex: do you want to work in a hospital?.....check the website for every hospital and look for job openings.

When I first started looking, I literally sent out my resume to at least 3 places a day....even if it didn't sound extremely appealing. It also depends on your credentials, remember that most places in NYC/LI/Queens that hire social workers, require a masters and a lot of them require you to be licensed as well.

Another way to go about looking is through the school you graduated at. I know at SBU, in the SW dept, they posted job openings all the time.

Look into nursing homes!! Especially the nursing home in southampton. I think its around $65k/year to start

im at school now for a resume workshop.. and well its helping me and i have a lot to do in the next few months concering job fairs...

like i said im beeing greedy and networkign ehre as well to see what is out there.

I work for north shore LIJ as a nurse.....but they are always hiring LCSW.....

the only thing is there is a lot of d/c planning...if thats not your thing, don't bother lol

my professor gave us the name of an agency that is looking for caseworkers (can't remember anything else about it ) but i remember i wrote the name down and the number to fax resumes to, but i dont have it with me right now. let me know if that'd help.
