I know it's late, but I am urked

Original post by rendel

Why would guests give you less money at a wedding if it was on a Friday vs a Sat or a Sun vs a Sat. A afternoon vs a night? A cocktail recep vs a complete sit down meal? Are people that petty that they actually do this? Sorry, I had to address this cause it is bothering me!!!!!!!!! I had no idea that people actually take this into account!!

Same goes for engagement gifts. I had an engagement party 11 years ago and I obviously did not marry him, he wasn't for me. But now that I'm with the man I will spend the rest of my life with, he wanted an engagement party and many people said I'm not getting you and engagement gift I already gave you one. Now I would completely understand this if it was say even 5 years ago...we are talking about 11 years! So as promised they showed up to my e-party with nothing...I just don't agree, I would have bought a gift even if it was a year ago that's just the way I am.

ewwww, those people suck. Next time their birthday rolls around, just say 'sorry, I got you a present last year.'

A few people will base your gift on the day or time of your wedding I have no idea why! We give the same amount all the time.. It makes no sense to me but some people are just like that I guess

Some people are just like that unfortunately. One person told me to expect less in my envelope because I was getting married in the winter time and on a sunday (He also asked how much I was paying, which at that point, I didn't even want to tell them). If you are going to do it, then do it, but don't tell me about it. Totally classless.

Wow, the season thing too, it's a freaking joke, it's like people will find any excuse!!!!! I am glad we see Eye to eye on this girls!!!!!

this idea of giving a different gift based on the time/date of wedding never phased me. I didn't know anyone considered that. Seems weird.

This just means people are caught up on $$, and that's not what the wedding is about. Yes, we alll know that while planning, a lot has to do with money, but your guests shouldn't be making calculations for your gift.

i give what i can afford and according to how close I am to the person.

So if you spent $50 a plate or $350 a plate, it's not my problem.

I've gone to cheaper weddings and I've gone to really high end weddings,

A gift is a gift and to calculate what a person spent on the wedding is unnecessary to me -

I know some people will be CHEAP @$$ for my wedding, while others will be generous....

as long as I get to marry my FH that's all I care about :)

this is annoying but if its extremely cheap i have to admit i would give less..... DONT KILL ME!

We went to a sunday brunch buffet wedding that was 3 hours no cocktail hr only wedding cake as dessert and didnt serve alcohol.... we gave $200 in stead of our usual $300 - also the bride was a coworker who bragged everyday how cheap it all was! but normally for fri-sat-sun day or evening we give the same... usually $300

what annoys me more is ppl who keep a list of what ppl gave them and give exactly the same back..... there are diff factors to consider!

do they take it all into consideration... for example that same coworker will give me the same $200 back i am sure cause she says it all the time... but i went to her engagment party (gave $100) went to her shower (gave a $50 gift) - she wasnt invited to my e-party and wont be to my shower (we have to invite less friends bc of LARGE families).... so do you think she'll give me $350??? NO WAY... ill get the same $200! I dont care what she gives us but its annoying that ppl have these silly things they stick to..... nothing is black and white!

sorry for the long vent but this stuff really gets me goign! :

Oh I know Michelle and this was some of my family, they didn't even agree that I was having another engagement party I was like it was 11 years ago...seriously get over it!

i know ALOT of people who do this.
they rationale is that since you are getting married on a friday vs a saturday you are paying less per person. same between a sunday and a saturday.
with day weddings, they know you pay significatnly less than if you are having a night time wedding.

although i have to say, usually the difference between fri, sat and sun night weddings isn't that drastically different that people would scimp on a few dollars, but there you have it with some people.

yea is usually like a 15/20 dollar difference, which when covering your plate is not much, but for a bride paying that difference for 150 people is a lot....I think I might consider this but only in terms of...if I had a closer relative who basically told me how much they were paying, and if they were paying for it themselves/weren't rich, I would try and give them a little more money, but acutally I would do this for any close relative regardless of what day of the week it was if I knew they were shelling out a lot of $$..soo scratch that, deciding nott to give money because YOU think sunday is cheaper..is BS

wow I didn't know people actually do this? it's completely stupid. The meaning of a wedding doesn't deppend on the day or time of the day?!?!
