I had a trial (Long)

I had a trial earlier in the year. She was knew her stuff, but the results were not for me. She`s very nice and I think she`d be easy to have around on the wedding day. I have long, fine, straight hair and all I wanted was to give it a little wave and some fullness in the front so it curled at the ends and around my face. It came out very curly and I thought there was too much spray and too many hair pins were used. It felt too stiff and fake. As I`ve heard other say, she told me that it was necessary to do it that way so it would hold all day, but I had a headache two hours later from all the pins. I also don`t wear any foundation on a daily basis, and rarely wear any makeup at all. Again, I was told about the necessity for makeup for the photos. I just didn`t feel that I looked natural and it did not feel good to have all the foundation on. Right before me, a girl left with an Up-do that looked great on her, as did her make-up. I think it may depend on what style you are looking for. Elena did tell me I could have another trial (I`m assuming for an additional charge - I didn`t confirm that) and she`d try for a different look based on my feedback. Since I live in another state and she wanted a commitment then (someone else was interested in the same date as my wedding) I decided not to go for another trial. I ended up doing it myself on my wedding day. I did a few hair trials using hot rollers and setting spray and got the results I wanted and it lasted all day. I went to a Clinique trial when they had a special promotion where they had their traveling team of make-up artists in town and we worked up a plan that was ideal. I felt very natural, my husband tells me it looked great (and he hated the other 2 trials I had) and the initial snapshots all looked good. I`ll get my proofs next week to see how the photos look but I`m expecting the best. SO... depending on what you want, you may be very happy or may not like the results. I`d definately recommend a trial with her if you want something more complex than I did.

Karen H: I agree

It's a matter of personal preference. IMO on your wedding day you NEED to feel good but also feel like yourself. Anything uncomfortable or foreign to you will not make you feel at ease. I'd love to see pics when you get them

I had a trial (Long) - question for Karen H.

Karen, May I ask who ended up doing your make-up? I'm going for a hair trial next week and am a little concerned about anyone doing makeup. I have NEVER worn any and my maid of honor agrees it will be very uncomfortable for me and will look weird if I suddenly glob on foundation etc. Plus I'll be tan b/c I'm getting married in August so I'm hoping to get away with just some touch-ups and some lip shimmer.

Linda - re: Make-up

Linda; I ended up doing my own, after going to a trial at a Clinque counter. They showed me a light, moisturizing foundation that I just dabbed on and blended with a sponge. It was very sheer and just evened the skin tones a bit, but did not feel like a mask. (If you go this route, be sure to get it shortly before the big day, so you can match your tanned skin tone) I also have a problem with dark circles around my eyes. They showed me a light undereye concealer that was not like the heavy, waxy stuff I`ve tried before. We picked a couple of eye shadow / highlights to help with the darkness above the eyes and they showed me how to apply them. I had some blush and mascara already but they helped with pointing out the best color of blush. For lipstick we picked a berry-colored lip liner to help define the lips and a couple of options on lipstick. In retrospect, I think I could have gone a bit darker there, because I eneded up with something barely darker than my natural color, but the end result was not bad. At least I didn`t look funny with really dark lips. I tried it a few times at home, and took shots with my digital camera to make sure I liked the effect. The morning of the wedding it all went smoothly and felt good all day. The only tough part was touching up the lipstick from time to time for photos - only because it was always somewhere on the other side of the room whenever the photographer would remind me! You may want to ask your new husband to keep it in his pocket!!! While I've never worn foundation, I did regurlarly wear eye makeup, lipstick and blush when I lived and worked in Manhattan, so it wasn't totally foreign to me. I was just looking for some advice on concealing the dark circles and picking the best colors for me. Good luck - hope this helps!

Linda

Maybe you could get your makeup done by Chanel. They have a new face makeup that is really light like a moisturizer, and it just evens out skin tone without covering it up. They have face highlights that illuminate tan and lip shimmers to go with it. I have someone already but I think they could create the effect you're looking for...and it's free if you go to the store.

Linda

Amy, Thank so Much... it does sound like what I'm looking for. I'll try and find a Chanel counter. Thanks again!
