I know this is a personal question but

Original post by bridget&jimmy

How much extra after all your bills do you have left over every month. We have a townhouse now but FI business is bringing us out west more, We have a Townhouse in Manorville which is the reason we have a nice down payment but we just wanna see how much we could really afford and live comfortable.

My sheet is color coded so I know what has been paid and what hasn't. I pay my bills online so I have even automated that process. matt isn't even allowed to get near it!!! My brothers make fun of him and ask if he is even allowed to have his own ATM card

we also have our Microsoft Office set up.. that's pretty cool too. and we pay everything online (except the oil company) incld., the mortgage.. =)

I wish - DH is hesistant about doing this. It would make bill paying a snap

It really does.. and we do all our banking online too.. so when we get paid (we both have direct deposit) we move some monies over to our joint, which is where we pay bills from and with the rest of the money left over, I write one big check and deposit it into our other joint account at Chase..

Re: I know this is a personal question but

We have tried to track expenses to the penny a few times and it never works. It becomes an argument and its so not worth it for us.

We save about 12% of our incomes in our retiement funds, then another 10% (more if you count take home instead of gross) for savings every month. We also put a bit aside for more risk investements like stocks but I dont know if that 'counts' as savings. The rest goes to pay the bills, etc..

Re: I know this is a personal question but

We are both CPA's, track our expenses, set up a budget and it seems that we should have $$ left over - but it falls into some kind of black hole!

Me and my FH argue about it all the time. He makes more, we both put the same amount towards the bills, I do all the food shopping, pick up the dry cleaning and do the laundry (we live in NYC) - and he still is in overdraft every month and I've managed to save a small amount.

Things that make you go hmmmmm

I could use some help too! If anyone is willing to take on that challenge
