I laugh whenever I hear people say that they will make $$ from their weddings, am I the only one that feels this way?

I look at a wedding as a poor 'financial investment', its definetly has a lot of sentimental value but come on. I know that the amount $$ parents are spending will not even come close to what we will get in gifts.

Absolutly...I dont even plan on coming close to breaking even.

Yep. So true yet so sad. I thought that by having a small wedding we'd save money and 'maybe' actually make a tiny profit, but that's not happening. The vendors alone could set you back.

I dont think you will ever get more than what is spent,,but I do believe you can come close or break even...

FI thinks we're gonna make it all back in gifts, but I don't even think we'll make half!

If your parents are paying a majority of the wedding costs, you will probably come out way ahead...if, like us, you pay for the wedding yourselves...it is unlikely you will break even.

I don't think we're even going to come close!

And, that was before the cancellations started rolling in. We're up to six cancellations with two days to go...

I am hoping to at least make back half of what we are spending.... any more would be great but I am not getting my hopes up too high!!!

It also depends on your family..I know mine and FH's is extremely genrerous....

To be honest..I am not even thinking of it like that.I just want everyone to come have a GREAT time and then still talk about it weeks later...

I am so agreeing with this. If we get $2000, we'll be in cloud nine. Everyone invited is either a family member or very close friend, everyone invited is broke, we don't want anyone to feel that they have to give us anything - they're there because we want them there. Because I know how little they will contribute (judging from my fi's brother's wedding) I am not setting myself up for dissapointment...and that's OK with me. It's good to go into it expecting nothing because anything we get will be a huge surprise.

well if your parents are paying for the wedding then yeah YOU do make a profit.. But for people paying for the wedding themselves it would be nice to come close or break even to what we are spending.. now is that going to happen prob not . but it would be nice

My two friends recouped $30,000 from their weddings!! I hope I am as lucky as them but I doubt it!

Might be hard for ya..considering your wedding is well over 60k

Well how are these girls looking at it? If you are looking at how much the whole wedding is compared to gifts- no way. But if a bride is comparing just what she and FI are laying out, than maybe they will make $

Id be surprised if a couple made back as much or more than what was spent for a wedding. I know we definately will not make anywhere near what we're spending!

We had 100 guests and definitely made back what we spent on the catering hall, but did NOT break even when you look at the cost of everything we spent $ on. We paid for absolutely everything ourselves and our whole wedding was about $20k, including HM.
