they fired me bc I didnt come in to work all week... ummm didnt you get the memo that it was an effin hurricane and 90% of Long island didnt have power and I have no effin gas!

I get that people want to go back to normal but to blame people and wonder why they didnt come in is a little disturbing.. esp when there was a tree on my house, and FH has been in the rockaways for the past few days

I'm so sorry. Where were you fired from? (FM me if you don't want to post here) You may be able to contact BBB or collect unemployment. Regardless, it sucks. Did you call and tell them what was going on? What was their reaction? This blows!

I'm so sorry to hear that. It it heartless of them! FH lost his job a while back, but we managed to get through it. You will too - and find something better.

So sorry to hear, I've heard of similar stories, its BS and they shouldn't be allowed to do that! I don't understand how some people/companies could be so heartless. I hope things turn around for you soon :(

Granted yes i should have called on wed, but we had a tree fall on our house, gas is soooo low, power was out, and AT&T didnt work! I ws also home alone bc FH was at the firehouse doing OT...

I would think that they would have called me at least on wed and say hey we are back up come into work!

and one of the buildings burned down in New Hyde PArk... so OBVISOULY there was nothing I could do when I didnt have a freakin office to go back to!

UGh! I'm really sorry! I didn't go to my second job either one wed night because I was told they were closed too but apparently they still wanted people to come in to work. It's actually a far ride for me and I had no power and I have AT&T too and my service was in and out. They didn't seem mad but they asked me where I was. I couldn't call the store because they had no phone service and another store within the company that I could reach told me they were closed because they had no power. Then last night I couldn't go because I have no gas! My car is stuck on the side of the road right now. I am hoping I won't get in trouble. I have been there for a while now and I always pick up shifts and cover people. I hope you find something better and you don't need to work for a place that treats you that way!

I am so sorry to hear this! Some people are just NOT logical at all. I wouldn't want to work for a company like that anyway. I hope you are able to find something soon. Try to let go of the things that are out of your control, and remember - ONE DAY AT A TIME!

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that New York State has received $27,792,296 in federal Disaster National Emergency Grant (NEG) funds. The grant will be used to hire workers who lost their jobs as a direct result of Hurricane Sandy in Bronx, Kings, New York, Richmond, Queens, Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland and Westchester counties to help clean up impacted communities.

“This federal grant will provide funds to hire much-needed extra workers to help clean up and recover communities impacted by Hurricane Sandy and put unemployed New Yorkers back to work,” Governor Cuomo said. “I thank Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis for her quick response to deliver assistance to our state.”

To be eligible, workers must be unemployed as a result of Hurricane Sandy or unemployed and not receiving unemployment benefits or other types of income support.

Workers interested in this program should call 1-888-4-NYSDOL (1-888-469-7365). The New York State Department of Labor will work with local officials to recruit and hire workers.

Information will also be available at local Disaster Recovery Centers and One-Stop Career Centers. A list of One-Stop Career Centers can be found on the State Department of Labor’s website at http://www.labor.ny.gov/workforcenypartners/osview.asp.

Counties eligible for cleanup assistance under this grant are those covered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Disaster Declaration for Public Assistance. They include Bronx, Kings, New York, Richmond, Queens, Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland and Westchester counties.

Honestly thats BEYOND BS!!! I would totally report them. I cant believe that they would let you go under these circumstances. Please FM me the company so I can be SURE that I will not give them ANY business.. MOFOS! They dont know how us 2013ers rally! Lets boycot them ladies!!
