I love my MOH but....(very long)

I love my MOH but....(very long)

Ok my MOH is my best friend since I was 6. I know I can trust her and that she is dependable. She will make sure that my wedding day is great for me and keep me grounded if I start to get out of control the problem is she is very traditional. She comes froma big italian family and her idea of a wedding is 5biliion people, a humungo cake and everything else that people have been doing at weddings since the beginning of time! That is great if you like that kinda thing....but I don't. I am going for classy/simple (and I am not even sure if I can pull that off!)not elegant(well I guess it can still be elegant)/big/expensive.
The problem with this is everytime I put an idea out she says something about it that she thinks isnt right. If it was anyone else it wouldnt matter but she is my MOH ... some of the bridesmaids (love you Marie!) like my ideas but it would be nice to know that my MOH doesnt hate them all. The other thing is my FH also likes to be traditional (not big wedding traditional but traditional) so I never have any firm support from two of the most important people in the wedding (besides me of course!) I have been able to convince him a few things (again thanks Marie(takingthelongway)!) but it is hard getting your ideas shot down all the time when I know they aren't totally out there....
Examples:
WHen I first suggested tea length bridesmaid dresses (which is what I always wanted ever since I watched Charlotte and Trey's wedding) she was fine. then a few weeks later she said 'would you consider long dresses, I just think that it will makethe pics look more uniform. If they are short and everyone is a diferent height then everyone will look short and stumpy'
I don't agree with that but we havent tried on dresses yet so when we do I will make that decision

Doing my own invitations:
'Well you can get the stuffat Michaels or something but dont you just want to have them made. THey will be nicer and less work for you. Well, you know how I am I just like nice things like that'
Again, I amnot made of money and I think doing my own invitations would be fine when the time comes I am going to check out the price difference and see if it is worth it. But a little support?

Cupcakes:
'umm......but in your pictures you are going to want you and Steve cutting the cake. I know the rebel in you wants to be different but you will regret it...'
Now besides the fact that I will probably have the small cake ontop because FH said the same thing she made it sound like I was nutz for wanting it!!! and what is with her and how the Pics are going to look. I want the pics to look real not like everything is staged and out of some stupid book!
Anyway that is just me venting. thanks!
I don't want to just go through the motions of a wedding I want it to be MY wedding....does that make sense?

I say it's your wedding you do what you want. If you listen to everybody elses opinions you will drive yourself crazy.

I was hearing a lot of crap about my church because it is at 2:30 but my reception doesn't start till 6:30. My family was like what is everybody supposed to do in between. I can't worry about everybody. FH & I wanted this church & nothing else. You have to be selfish for one day. Do what will make you happy. You have to follow what you have always dreamed about.

St. Kilians? I went there when I was younger! I even taught religious ed there.
It is true you do have to do what you want and I know I will in the end...I would just like some support!

My FH belongs to St. Kiians. His grandparents & his parents all got married there so it means a lot to him that we go to that church.

Yeah my family is a little disappointed that I am not getting married there, but church just isn't my thing anymore. My Dad's whole family actually went to elementary school there and got married there....it is a legacy in the family. ALong comes rebelious me getting married at the RH and preferebly by someone who is nondenominational...

St.Kilian's is a gorgeous church they just redid the entire thing within the past 10 years or so and it is really nice!!! you will have a beautiful wedding. Me and all of my cousins were CHristened there also!

im sorry about that i have a cousin that does that stuff but i just take it with a grain of salt sometime people dont understand what its like to have a BUDGET! also as far as the cupcake wedding cake goes.. tell her to shhs up..lol the top layer can be a CAKE so that you can have your pics of you cutting the cake hence the pic below! i love it and its unique just like you and your wedding should be a reflection of YOU AND FH! do what makes you happy and try to take what she says as a grain of salt!

i would not let it bother you to much ... though i know how you feel .. my MOH keeps telling me that she can only wear a ceartin style dress and that anything else she cant do ... and then i keep telling her its my wedding and ill do what i want ... she finally got it and now she doesnt care ... you cant let her opinions bother you everytime she says something your response should be ... 'well when you get married you can do that ... i am doing this' ... good luck!!!
