I love this poem, I want this hanging in my kids room, when I have them.

I love this poem, I want this hanging in my kids room, when I have them.

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, 'Speak to us of
Children.'

And he said:

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts.

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit,
not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you
with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;

For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that
is stable.

what about this one?

Don't let your parents down, They brought you up.
Be humble enough to obey, You may give orders someday.
Choose your companions with care, You become what they are.
Guard your thoughts, What you think, you are.
Choose only a date Who would make a good mate.
Be master of your habits, Or they will master you.
Dont' be a show off when you drive, Drive with safety and arrive.
Don't let the crowd pressure you, Stand for something or you'll fall for anything.

I don't like that poem at all. my FMIL has that one in her daughters room. I don't agree with
Don't let your parents down, They brought you up. Because children don't owe their parents anything. Parents are oblicated to raise their children, and if the child wishes to make them proud that is the childs choice and one elses. Be humble enough to obey, You may give orders someday. Obedinces is not something teenagers are suppose to do. They are suppose to give you a hard time. that is how they become their own person. Choose your companions with care, You become what they are. So anyone who takes care of people who have addiction problems is an addict? Guard your thoughts, What you think, you are. Instead of guarding your thoughts you should wonder why you have them.Choose only a date Who would make a good mate. Sorry but I believe young people should experment. I don't believe people should be virgins when they marry. The rest I don't 100% disagree but I feel I wouldn't put this in my childs room. But hey to each their own.
