I'm soo angry(long)

My Dad must think I'm 5 or something. We have or should I know say had a very old dog. She was 15 years old. She was starting to lose control of her bathroom functions and things were getting worse. So my dad tells me he is going to put her to sleep soon. Naturally I get all emotional and start crying.
Anyway, he goes away this weekend and I go over to check on the dog and there is no dog. So I call my dad in a panic and ask where is she. He tells me she 'ran away', and he dosen't think she is coming back this time.
Now I drive around the neighborhood looking for her, call the pound , etc. No dog. When I go back to the house I happen to see a box filled with a the dog stuff, like her bowls and leash.
Call my Dad back and he tells me he put the dog down the other day and he thought if he told me she ran away I would handle it better.
Now I am crying because I really wanted to say goodbye to the dog and he didn't even let me.
Sorry this is soo long but I needed to vent. I miss my dog

He should have allowed you one last goodbye, I think he was thinking of you, don't be too mad at your dad, you know in their eyes we are always children. Hope you feel better soon.

Oh that's so sad! I'm so sorry about the loss of your dog, but I think your dad was trying to protect you by not telling the truth.

You have to give the man credit for loving you and not wanting to see you hurting.

We had to put my doggie to sleep when I was younger & I had her from when I was like 5 till 14. I know how you feel!

its a very sad experience to put a dog to sleep - we just put ours to slepp b/c he had cancer and it was the hardest thing to say good bye but we did have the chance. i am so sorry you didn't have that but am sure your dad probably thought he was doing the right thing. (it still ****s though!)

I know a new dog will not replace the other dog, but maybe it is time for a new pet.

I know how much this hurts. My childhood dog had what we thought was arthritis at age 11 and I still recall the day I left the house for the day and gave her a hug goodby. When I got home, she wasn't there and I found out she had started bleeding and mom rushed her to the vet only to find she had cancer in her bones and internal organs and they had to put her to sleep since there was no hope at that point. I never got the formal goodby either, though I don't think I could have handled it. It must have been hard enough for your dad without witnessing your pain over the final goodby too - I'm sure he was doing what he thought was the best way to handle it.

I understand your emotions about this. On Valentine's day this year me and dh had to put to sleep our 12year old cat. She was having kidney failure. That was the hardest thing I ever did. I stayed in the room with her until it was over. I could not believe how emotional I got. I was histerical. So, you just need some time to mourn. We actually got a new kitten about 1 month after, but every once in a while we call her our other cats name. hugs to you,

Don't be too mad at your Dad. It was wrong and it hurts. But he was trying to do what he thought was best for you. But you are right you should have been able to have one last good-bye.

Your dad was just trying to protect you like someonelse said. We are still little girls to them. I understand how you felt. My parents did something similar to me when I was younger. They knew they were putting our dog to sleep but they didn't tell us. They told us when they got home. Also I have 2 rabbits and my father checked they everymorning and every afternoon
(when they got older) and made sure I never found them dead. While I always wanted to say good bye. I am kind of glad I didn't really have to go through with it first hand....

I am so sorry. I could see if you were a child, but to not be honest with you that he is going to put the dog to sleep was very unfair to you. I think you do have a right to be angry.

I am so sorry. I know losing a pet is very hard.
I'm sorry your dad did it without telling you. He meant well but I understand your point.
Your dog knew you all loved him very much.
